So I've been thinking about which oil is best, on bikes the golden child seems to be 10w40 but I've seen everything from 5w30 all the way up to 20w60 recommended for the Navara.

I figure being in Australia and in our climate as well as it being a slightly older Navara I have something like 10w50 would be ideal for it's extra wear resistance and I'm not trying to eek out as much power as possible from it like I would with my bikes

What brand is best as well I prefer to use full synthetic, ester if possible for the long term benefits of reducing build up.

Thanks in advance champions 😁

10W30 in summer, 5W30 in winter. Fully synthetic (you generally can't use mineral oil in a DPF-equipped vehicle, too much ash).

I wouldn't dream of using the same oil in my bike, because the friction modifiers in the oil would quickly destroy the wet clutch system.

Yeah I use motul 7100 for my bikes nothing less and I got 5w30 penrite Enviro+ but read someone suggesting a thicker oil for older engines to account for some of the wear from age but I'll stick to 10w30 and 5w30 for now until I'm more confident with the vehicle.

After I'm more confident on it I'll fiddle a bit and see what happens 😜

Fiddling with different oils is a good way to wreck an engine. Find one that does the job and stay with it. The grade/viscosity is not as important as the specified use(read additives).

What other DPF friendly oils are there other then penrite Enviro+ that seems to be the one that gets shoved down my throat every time I go looking

Penrite is a good oil, but there's a number of companies putting out full synthetics. They have to state on the bottle "Suitable for DPF" which means they're a low-ash formula (most synethics will be). Castol, Nulon, Mobil - all supply these. Example:

I've used this for years now.
I have 340k on my Nav

Without knowing more detail about the vehicle it is impossible to say. You will certainly need DPF compatible oil IF it is equipped with one. Irrelevant but I have always used 5w30 and if there is any oil use, it is negligible. I would follow the specifications stated in the handbook and not get confused by varying opinions, some of which may be long held and based on the belief of somebody's Grandfather's Grandfather.
