I am thinking of buying a new Navara ST-X, but am deterred by the apparent inability to engage low range without having the front hubs locked in (ie in 4WD). I can do this now with my Patrol by leaving the front (manual) hubs unlocked and this is very useful when trying to back heavy trailers up steep hard surfaces. Of course, I could do this with the Navara D22 which has manual hubs, but not with the D40.

Can anybody suggest how I can get over this problem with the D40, eg by inserting a switch in the electronic circuitry which causes both 4WD and low range to be engaged together.

We discussed this recently, Yes it can be done. I'll search my brain and the forum to see if I can find the thread. I remember someone finding it on the Pathfinder forum.
