After reading on another forum that there were tracks in the sand dunes from Two Rock to Moore River I decided to try and find a way through the maze of tracks and plot a course using my GPS.

After airing down to 16 psi at Two Rocks i set off at 10am and headed north towards Wilbinga, snaking my way through the dunes and at times along the beach. Having the VMS 700HD as a GPS made things alot easier as I could see where I had been. Along the way I had to double back a few times as I was going the wrong way.

After 2 hours of driving I finally came to the river mouth. The river had not broken its banks and I did the right thing and didnt drive across the river mouth. I then headed inland and spent the next hour trying to find my way back to the road. After encounting many fences and locked gates I decided to head back to the beach and make my way out via Wilbinga.

After travelling down a bush track for 20 minutes I came out at the Wilbinga truck stop. I then aired up and headed to Moore River for a feed, by this time it was 2:30.

While driving this track I tracked the whole journey on my GPS and recorded 10 way points at important intersections to help me navigate the dunes in the future.

Next weekend I am going to drive from Ledge Point to Moore river through the dunes. I will do another write up in due time

Nice write up mate, Is 2hrs all it had taken you to get to the river mouth? I remember seeing a 4wdcraption dvd of them doing this a couple years ago and it was a pretty decent trek.

The ledge point to moore river trip sounds like fun, How many km's roughly is that?

Not sure on how many km's Ledge to Moore River is, i rercon it will take between 2 - 4 hours. Yeah it only took just over 2 hours, i wasnt exactly keeping track of how long it took. If I knew where I was going Id say I could do it in an hour as I lost a lot of time due to backtracking.

yeah mate know the area well manage to get up there in about 45 minutes to an hour on a good run without any playing around in the dunes on the way up, getting alot more crowded up there the last year and starting to destroy some of the good dunes which is a shame, regardless always a fun place to go play
