Turbo piping replacement advice?

G'day all,

I have the standard blow by weep from the stock hose/rubber joiners in the turbo piping. Instead of just trying to tighten the hose clamps I figured I'll just replace all the joiners and hose clamps with new.

Hence....

Has anyone done this?

Am I better off replacing with identical (whether aftermarket or genuine)?

Or appropriately sized hard plastic/silicon piping cut to size?

And is it worth dobbing on a bit of gasket glue either option I go?

Plazmaman hot side turbo pipe upgrade. Search function is your friend ;)

there isn't one for a zd30 d22.

clamps will be ok. maybe change the hoses.
however 90% of it is fitting a catch can to stop the oil in the first place.
makes sure you clean the pipe and hoses before fitting. they need to be dry so they stick once they heat up. once they get oil under them they will always leak.
 
Got catch can? Hot oil inside pipes will seep through the joins over time no matter what you do. A good catch can will fix this.
 
Might have to look into a catch can, seen a few banging on about the Forefront ones.

Probably better off doing all at once ey!

Probably not. If it takes days and weeks to build up seepage after a degrease thats normal. a boost leak would make much more of a mess and you'd hear it.

The other thing to do once you've stopped all that pcv oil going through your intake with a catch-can is to blank off the egr to stop all the soot going through as well.

what can happen is the oil makes the hoses prone to coming loose and even popping off (depending on pipes its on). people then tend to crank up the clamps to stop it coming loose which in turn damages the hose.

thats why its important to clean the pipes when fitting the hoses. if there is no oil present the hose can stick to the pipe which will stop oil coming out.
 
^ exactly what he said. And it happens more if the tube has no flaring. There are options available. Use a flaring tool to give the lip of the pipe a slight flare (doesn't need much). Drill about 8 holes (around 6mm in size should be good) around the pipe where the clamp will go, the clamp will push the rubber in through those holes and force it to grip.

Overtightening can also pinch the hose - which introduces a leak! This is more common in fuel lines where people believe the hose clamps need to be done up with a pry bar.
 
It's true ^ i was having the same problem on my D40 a month ago. Turns out my Plazmaman pipe had no flare on it. Used a flaring tool, hasn't happened since. Also have a catch can as well. One of the best investments ever.

Checked it after 1000kms of fitting it, it's got oil in it. Moreso after long trips on the road. Western Filters sell complete kits for D40 and D22 Navs on Ebay for $260. Can, filter, all hoses and joins, clamps etc. Worthwhile investment!
