The easiest way to check the boost is to plug into the OBD port and grab the data. That can be done cheaply: grab an ELM327 bluetooth OBD2 reader from eBay and any OBD program for your phone (I use Torque for Android). You can get tons of data this way, so it's not a one-off exercise.
Overheating can cause significant problems that aren't always easily visible. It would be worthwhile checking your coolant level and watch the oil for milkiness.
