Just fitted my 2 3/4" beaudesert exhaust and just wondering which chip to get????
Can't find any info on Steinbauer improving fuel economy?
Which is 1 of the main reasons for getting the chip, I thought thry're the best 1??

That's what they hope for, spending blindly is as good as making educated decisions.

Yeah sorry I am a bit cynical of providers of any product who use technical terms aimed to confuse rather than plain english. Too many pricks use it to hide that they don't know what they are talking about but are willing to sell shit to the general public.

Note: I'm not actually accusing either of the two chip sellers on this forum of false advertising or not knowing what they are doing but it happens in just about every industry and it's about time producers and sellers stopped treating people like dickheads and trying to sucker them into sales. There is also very few appropriate places in the world for two suppliers to fight and argue each other in an effort to prove one is better, prove it through fact and clear example not dribble and diarrhea.

Im hearing ya with the shit they say.. Been in the phone half the day.. Went down and spoke to chip torque cause their local and I'm gonna steer clear of the plug and play options. They do the same as a uni chip setup. Stores 5 separate tunes which are done on their dyno. Chip torque and uni chip seem more refined and both chuck the cars on the which I think is a good thing.

Going to take the weekend to think about which 1.. Hopefully I make the right choice.

If I were to get a chip, it would be for the sole purpose of more torque when towing otherwise the vehicle has ample urge for my driving style (sloooow).

Do I need a chip that's going to alter a multitude of paramaters or will there be a greater chance of something going wrong? Not talking about the 300 dollar e-bay jobs but the $1000 plus units.

To me reliability is paramount & I would much rather err on the side of caution & sacrafice a little in performance.

Not sure which way to go & might end up doing nothing.

Coles have chips for $2 this week, not much risk getting some of those, you might not get a power increase but then most chip manufacturers only claim a "gain" never any actual figure so you could still be in front and have only spent $2.

Krafty :)

i'm hearing ya joe. reliability is paramount..diesels cost way to much to rebuild.
not going for a horse power hero just abit of extra torque and kw's without placing unwanted strain on the motor or running gear. thats why im gonna opt for a module with 3d mapping and thats tuned on the dyno rather than ya cheaper plug and play variants. atleast they can see exactly whats going on in realtime. the 2 modules im looking at still are governed by the factory parameters so ya safety features such as limp mode etc are still utelised.
bit of an as educated decision as you can get from a dumb ass kind of thing.
hopefully have it all sorted by the end of the week.

1suprising thing is how much difference in figures from the fly wheel to the actual wheels are.

Ok, my short and to the point two cents.

-Don't expect huge mpg improvements from any chip that adds extra power and extra fuel...(let that one sink in for a moment...), dispite various claims. Some chips throw off the onboard mpg readout, so don't assume better readings are so much different or better.

-Treat the majority of horsepower claims, just like the mpg claims.....its not uncommon for chip sellers to claim 30-35% extra power.

"Claims on the Internet have been notoriously hard to verify....", Winston Churchill, 1936.

-In my experience, fuel pressure chips like the Tunit do more for the low end power.
-Chips that add extra injector opening (duty cycles) such as the Steinbauer, seem to come in slightly more towards the top end of the powerband.

Fuel pressure chips are more prone to cause an ecu error, due to over adjustment, outside what the ecu and the mechanical fuel pressure relief valve likes. It's a matter of fine tuning, and while annoying and sometimes alarming, such ecu errors (limp modes) don't generally do damage to your engine.

So there you have it.

You can even run both. There's the usual disclaimers on extra fuel, EGTs, getting an EGT gauge, the D40 running hot from the factory, but if such a chip is your only powermod and you don't go for a setting that makes her smoke like the Batmoblie, engine longevity should be alright.

Good post BlueNavara...I have one of those disco's on Hayabusa..plus a GT35 on the bench.

Back on track,,,really need hardware and software to access OE ECU....like so many other's have done..Holden , Fords and alot of motorbikes now..piggy backs have so many limitations .

Alright lads. The cars booked in to. CHip torque on Friday for the install and dyno of their. Exede processor (piggy back). I'll post up the the dyno print outs when I get a chance. Won't be till next week when I get back home from work.

How did it go?

Have had a Steinbauer fitted (JC diesel Narellan) for 12 months. Tried a couple of settings, without any change in economy, but real extra grunt on top setting. 3in system fitted 6 months ago by OL Narellan. Now even more grunt, but no change in economy. A bit lower if anything.

Wondering if I need dyno tuning. Any ideas?
