This now has happened 3 times - whilst towing and going up hill - the car lost power,-- it doesn't stall but there just is no power? the light comes on saying engine Malfunction - first time went to Nissan mechanic and they re set computer not able to tell us what was actually wrong as they didn't have right equipment to read faults at that time - a few weeks later - same deal but in the morning the malfunction light was off and car went well- yesterday happened again? ? Does anyone have this vehicle and do you tow with O/D OFF - first time I was driving with it off, second time it was on and i was in cruise control - third time on a straight stretch of road.... and neither was on???? Only other thing was just before this happened I had refuelled.... only done 50000 and been having reg services.....

towing caravan

Can some one tell me exactly how to tow with my Nissan Navara D40 2011 - caravan is 21ft -
now do i put O/D OFF? and drive with it off all the time whilst i am towing - is this fuel economical?
can i use cruise control whilst towing and having O/D OFF....
these questions might sound a big dumb but I do all the driving and really have been given so much different advice - would like to hear it from Nissan expert direct...

Welcome to the forums.

Leave OD on (ie the light on the dash off). Towing in general is not economical, you can use cruise control but you will have more control over economy (and the car) if you drive it yourself because you can see hills and either add some more go berries or take some away depending on your direction, cruise control can't see the hills and will compensate and often over compensate at the last minute. On the flat there is no reason not to use CC.

As davey boy above said check out the D40 section there is a heap of us towing large and small loads and you may find tips that help you.
