transfer case D22 -2003 overheating

I have a D22 2003 3L TD model - When using 4WD I seem to get a lot of heat coming up through the gearbox vinyl cover into the cabin.
I have noticed that I have a small slit in the lower vinyl shroud around the base of the gear lever but even sealing this over still seems to make little difference after say twenty minutes of 4WD work.
Any comments please?

^ yeah what he said. Mine used to get warm and I put new oils in and problem solved

fluid levels last time I checked OK, but thanks for suggestions will keep monitoring and due to change fluid again shortly, so hopefully problem will be resolved.
