nah tyhe seals on them are shit man, like properly shit. there was definatly mud in there aswell. thanks nissan for a good around 4wd.

issue has been fixed was dodgey connection to the servo, all rusted. also figured out if your really stuck in the bush and cant get it into 4wd you can do it Manuely

ok now for future reference if you have issues with your transfer case there is a self diagnostic, to find the problemm area. and i will post the procedure for Manuel transmission.
Diagnostic Procedure (M/T models)
1. Warm up engine.
2. Turn ignition switch “ON” and “OFF” at least twice, and then turn ignition switch “OFF”.
3. Move M/T shift lever to neutral position.
4. Turn 4WD shift switch to “2WD” position.
5. Turn ignition switch “ON”. (Do not start engine.)
6. 4WD warning lamp ON.
If 4WD warning lamp does not turn ON, refer to TF-96, "4WD Warning Lamp Does Not Turn ON" .
7. Move M/T shift lever to any position other than neutral.
8. Turn 4WD shift switch to “2WD”, “4H” and “2WD” in order.
9. Move M/T shift lever to neutral position.
10. Turn 4WD shift switch to “4H”, “2WD” and “4H” in order.
11. Move M/T shift lever to any position other than neutral.
12. Turn 4WD shift switch to “2WD” position.
13. Move M/T shift lever to neutral position.
14. Read the flickering of 4WD warning lamp.
Refer to TF-51, "Judgement Self-diagnosis" .

this is all straight from the service manual.
first thing i would do is do the self diagnostic
secondly testing your plugs note that you cannot tell if they are working fine or not just by inspection you will heed to test as the parts are internal and cant be easily removed.
ok the 2 plugs on the front of the transer case (black and gray) will read contact once fully depressed, the one on the back next to the transfer control device (gray) will read contact once there is any movement of the pin.
and third pull the the hi and low relay out and test it aswell as the shut off relays and fuses( under the bonnet) , also check correct operation of the switch in cab as it some times fails.

ok now if your really stuck in the bush/beach and you are able to get under the car and it will not go into 4wd, if you remove the transfer control device (2 bolts) you can turn the shaft manually to engage 4wd with someone standing on the break and clutch while not in gear you should be able to hear it click.
turning clockwise about 1/4 turn you should feel 4h if you keep going to about 270 degrees you should feel a click and you will be in 4low, as this is part of the transfer seal you will need to stick something over the hole or open up the control unit 4 screws remove the back cog first connected to the motor and then just the motor/control device can do whatever it wants but it will not be able to pull itself out. this will throw a 4wd code but it will get you out of a sticky situation and you should also remember that the unit is roughly 1700 from nissan to replace so yeh. i had a bit of a stuff around trying to get it all back into alignment as i had the cover off (4 screws) which holds all the cogs in and it threw the cog out so yeh make sure its all tight before you try to engage it.

yeh it got me the first time but once i figured it out it actually works so yeh, same thing you pay nissan $300 to do when you can do it yourself in 10min

nissan service manual for the car itself same one they use to figure out whats wrong with them.
