What I don’t understand is why I’m being told 1hr labour to fit a HPD can and 5-6hrs labour for a vent pro, and some shops flat out refuse to fit the vent pro, will only do the HPD.I think the reluctance to install the catch can is due to the limited space in the STX550's engine bay. The V9X is a relatively large motor.
However, the catch can is actually a very simple device. There's a hose that runs from the PCV on the engine to the air intake in front of the turbocharger. The catch can sits in this hose, intercepting the flow. The idea is to remove the oil vapour from the flow so that it doesn't enter the intercooler or the engine.
From what I can see from the information on here and other forums, the installation is the same, you just need a couple of extra fittings for the vent pro to make it work.
So it’s not that I can’t get anyone to install a catch can, I can’t get anyone to install the Vent Pro, and that’s what’s got me scratching my head, am I missing something here? From what I have seen on line, quite a few people have installed the vent pro on a 550 without too much trouble?
But I think I’ll do it myself, I’ll be removing my front bar so I’ll see if I can fit it somewhere closer to the front of the car, just have to make sure I retain access to the top of the can so I can replace the filter easily
