Removing door trim-merit plug in tub.

need to replace some plugs on my right hand front door trim, can anybody tell me how to get the top black strip off which is up against the window. I can take everything thing else of but the black strip. Any help would be great, Also got merit plug put in tub for my waeco, only thing is the plug on the waeco seems very loose in the merit but doesnt come out, anyone else have this as well and is it a problem.

I wouldn't be too worried about the plug feeling loose if the contacts make good contact. If the contacts are also loose then it definitely needs looking at. Can't help with trim sorry.

The black strip stays on the door trim just give the door skin a good thud from beneath and it should come off. The merit plug on the waeco lead will move around in the socket. I use to have problems with mine with voltage drop, I cut the merit plug off and replaced with an andersen plug which is heaps better.

Thanks peter i got the trim off and fixed the problem. did you cut the plug from the fridge or the merit plug in the tub?

I cut the merit plug off the lead to the fridge and replaced with andersen plug and have andersen plug in tray to connect to, very good connection rated to 50A. Also need to have a fuse in the fridge lead (10A) to protect the fridge.

I have just had a merit plug put in tub which has a fuse in between the battery and fridge for protection.do I just leave it, as I have been 4wd in it with the plug in and lost no connection, its just a bit loose. The connection must be fine though.

Wasn't thinking when i first read this. If it is a merit plug definitely get rid of it and anderson plug it.

The anderson plug is a much better sturdier type of plug for that application. What amps does the fridge draw? The merit plug can rattle around quite a bit and if driving on rough rouds may cause it to come loose, or even create sparking between the contacts.

The fridge draws 0.8 amps per hour and I have twin batteries so should last a while. The plug doesn't seem to lose any contact when driving so I might leave it for a while. Do you know how many amps each battery would be? As it doesn't say on the batteries.onfused:

Can't help on the Amp/Hour each battery is, but 0.8 amps will last ages. I have 4 little UPS batteries could run 0.8 for around 8hrs each so no worries on a big battery. Merrit plugs are normally good to about 10A, so 1A is fine in that regard. I, like many others, am not a fan due to the looseness that can happen. The anderson plugs make very good contact, as well as not having the movement which can cause issues.
