Rear guard removal on st-r

Hey guys,
I have a 2000 model navara with a later model rear as seen in the pic. The only problem is the guards above the wheel on the later model ones flare out more and on my 2000 model it doesnt. I was wondering if it is possible to remove them? is it easy? will there be paint underneath? and would it look stupid?

Yeah there's paint underneath but plastic studs for it to hang on so if you dont replace them you'd have holes where the studs mount.

Maybe hunt around for some little white (or paint em) plugs like the ones people use it fill the holes after they take off spoilers.

Cheers guys, are the stud mounts behind the actual guard on the paint or inside the wheel arches at bottom of the guard?

yeah they're mounted behind the flare on the side of the quarter panel, not underneath or inside.
