Hi I'm a new member but have owned Navara's for the last 20 years my current is a 2000 DX cab chassis 2.7 diesel.
I have always tried to install the latest gadgets in the Ute like reverse sensors and a reverse camers and had installed a 2007 6 stacker which was a good upgrade with new speakers,
That was until i saw a 2011 radio out of a Navara dual cab STX/STR on Ebay ,after i won the radio i was informed it had no pin and could only be installed in the vehicle it was coded for which was a bit of a shock ,but as i had already ordered new harness and an Ariel adapter from USA i decided to bench test and see if it would at least turn on,Surprise surprise not only did it turn on but there was no security code asked ,,Ive now had this radio /media centre running for over a week now and it works flawlessly, So i rang Nissan Australia and asked how this radio lacked any security code and they could not answer me .
So if you own a 2011 Navara your car radio does not have a security system installed and can be stolen and used in any car?

Welcome to the forum!

That seller should have been reported for trying to sell a useless item.

However, you seem to be lucky. It's not so much "installed in the original vehicle" more than "needing the PIN" which is on a card in the original vehicle's owner's manual. I probably wouldn't push Nissan on it, they might press a button and activate it.

I would be asking the seller if they have the PIN handy, or if not, ask them if they could get it from Nissan (the VIN of the vehicle is needed to get this info from Nissan).

^ More to the point. If you suspect it's stolen there are a whole bunch of legal implications for you and the seller - you may want to be a bit more secret squirrel about it.

If it's legit (out of a wreck or swapped for something more speccy) then the PIN can't be far away. Failing that get the VIN from the original car from the seller and take that to nissan - they should be able to retrieve the PIN

Hi tony the newest Navara's don't have a radio pin, if your unlucky and get a flat battery you have to go to the Nissan dealer who will plug in to the Canbus system and enable the radio. i personally rang Nissan and was told this, its to prevent stolen radios being sold as their not supposed to work in any other vehicle except the vehicle the coded to ,
The person i bought the radio from didn't know about the security of the radio as there was no pin with it and didn't need one as it could only be used with his vehicle.

The vehicle was bought just before Xmas and the owner had a Satnav installed by Nissan, he was handed his original radio back he also had the suspension upgraded and was selling these as well ,i have the sellers name and address and his phone number and he is the owner of the original radio, and he sent me copies of emails he had sent to Nissan ,they also could not believe that the radio is working in a 12 year old Navara.

Here is a picture of the radio in question

Had to approve the post with the image in it.

That looks just like the Nissan radio that came out of my Navara. I had the dealer install a Pioneer satnav and my radio was handed to me in the Pioneer's box.

I still have the code for mine. It's on a card the size of a credit card and I've put it in the box with the radio (I removed it from my car's manual wallet).

I never thought about selling it. I didn't think anyone would buy one!

Hi Tony what year is your Navara, i had a 2007 6stacker in mine before i purchased this one and it did have a pin card, but apparently thats now a thing of the past, there might be some one on the forum that has just bought a new navara and they might be able to shed some light on the card issue, that aside when i rang Nissan on their 18000 035 035 number they were emphatic that there is no more pin card with the radios .

must be similar to the one the owner of the radio had installed , the radio had only done 47km before he had it changed in December 2011 ,so its only a month old and i got it very cheap so i can't complain. the only difference is he had a Nissan GPS installed as far as i know.
