Hi.
My 07 Navara (2.5D) is at the local Deisel mechanic awaiting an oil sample test, as my oil seems to be increasing? Or, my usual mechanic is putting too much in. Im hoping it isnt fuel thats maybe thinning my oil???
If it is fuel in my sump what possible causes are there for this to happen?

Yes the timing chain question again, anybody got this brand/type before below vvv, ive been quoted $1500. Any +/-?

Thanks.

the yd25 timing chain has some good reviews, do a search
fuel in sump sounds nasty
could be faulty injectors, is car blowing smoke?

There is a thread on here somewhere about fuel leaking into the sump, BUT from memory it was in a ZD30 motor which was something to do with the fuel pump or a seal in the pump, actually i have heard of it doing that in the current 3LT CR patrol motor which is a evolution of the old ZD30.
Im not sure if i have heard of a YD25 doing it

No smoke. The oil was changed again about a month ago, & the other day the diesel mechanic said it looked dirty? He asked what oil the other mechanic put in it? The right oil was put in the other mechanic said. Though he did say he put over 7ltrs in it? Going by my owners manual there is only meant to be 6.9ltrs.
The oil has been changed 2 times this year under 10K.
Initially when the timing chain was getting noisy just after xmass i took it to another local mechanic, & he noticed there was upto 2ltrs more oil then its meant to have around mid Feb, it was serviced in Jan.
I got my own mechanic to change the oil, he put abit more then 7ltrs.

Its been to a few mechanics to be assessed & i got the pips & took it to a referred Diesel mechanic, who is doing the timing chain & sending off the oil sample to be lab tested. Im just hoping my usual mechanic put too much oil in, i wont be using him again, hes a mobile mechanic.

Diesels get their oil dirty - particularly if they're revved or if you're towing - fairly quickly (several hundred km quickly, in fact) - you can reduce that dramatically by blocking the EGR (click here).

With oil filter as well, the YD25 sump holds 7.6 litres.

The fuel-in-oil has happened in the D40 and it was a faulty return/spill line, and another here that was a faulty fuel pump. It needs investigation, rather urgently, and I strongly recommend that you practice lifting the bonnet and ripping the PCV line from the intake - because if diesel run-on begins, you can either do that, or stand back and start videoing the inevitable destruction of the engine.

YD25's product is, from all accounts, the ONLY choice to make for an aftermarket timing chain. Genuine is single-row, but it seems their main point of failure isn't as much the chain as it is the tensioner causing the chain to stretch. The double-row chain offered by YD25 is more robust, and I'm pretty sure they ship new tensioners as well.

Cheers for the info. It has an oil catchcan installed recently, will that help? What do you mean by ripping the PVC line?

The PCV line (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) is the hose that runs from the top of the motor at the rear, to the air intake just in front of the turbocharger. If you've got diesel run on, it's happening because the vapour coming out of the crankcase is being pumped into the air intake through that hose. Remove the hose, it stops.

The normal cause of diesel in oil is, leaking metal gaskets between the spill rail and the injectors. Have you had injectors removed or replaced in the past? These seals MUST be replaced when removed. Test by removing the spill line connector where it passes through the head and vaccuum test the spill line. Any loss of vaccuum needs investigating
