New suspension

I have $1500 to spend on new suspension. (parts only not installation).

I am looking to at least order it next week.

What do you recomend? I have been thinking ironman is good value at way less than $1500 but can I get better for a bit more?

I have an ARB canopy as well as Outback drawer system. With maybe 80kg of weight in the back it sits an inch lower at the rear. I will occasionally tow my camper with approx 150kg down weight on the towbar.

Look forward to some sugestions.

Gday Laith,did you get rid of the cruiser?
I have ironman in mine but dont carry alot of weight.Comfort load set up.
Very comfortable and a good ride.The only thing that pisses me off is the RHR spring chirps like a bird.Sprayed it with all types of lube but it wont stop.Must be wearing something out.
Will probably try another brand next time,
For 1500 i'm sure you could do a bit better than ironman.

Still got the cruiser for more "hardcore" weekends away. The new Nav is a work vehicle 90% of the time but is way more comfortable and powerfull than the Cruiser so will get used for suitable weekend getaways as well.

$1320 with torsion bars, if you don't need them it would drop somewhat. The Heavy Duty are rated 200kg to GVM so might be a little stiff if your only carrying 80kg around but i don't find mine to bad with an empty tray and its good to have it able to handle any load.

My D40 don't have T Bars though. I see they have a D40 kit though.

Also I need to add the 80kg I carry around with the weight of the canopy and drawers. Probably 200kg at a guess.

I would think I need a constant load kit for the rear.

gday laith, i had my suspension done from the guys at ULTIMATE SUSPENSION, and so far so good great ride,great handling on and off the road. they set up the whole system on exactly what you want and how much your vehicle weighs. the shocks will be valved to suit your needs, and can be rebuilt. they dont have a one size fits all set up which i like, as i said before it will be designed to each individual 4x4.

the only thing i would recommend is that you phone them up and have a talk to them as i dont think they are on here very often. hope this helps to give you another option. personally i am very happy with my set up, no squeaks or anything like that, and works awesome on the road and even better off. i use my ute for work as a metal roofer and the ute has been allot better since i had the suspension fitted.
i dont work for them nor am i freinds with any of the staff or owners, just a very happy customer, and when i find somthing that works i am happy to spread the word.

i just found my receipt from 2 months ago, the total for the 2inch lift kit including fitting and wheel alignment was $2034. if you subtract $396 fitting and $59 wheel alignment = $1579.
if your nav is new you wont need bushes so that will bring the price down.
my kit included, coils,shocks,springs,greasable shackles, u/bolts + hardware.
i would still give them a call and tell them that you are a member of the forum and that i also told you about them and they may do something for you. its worth a shot. ask to speak to brendan or ken. ken is normally a bit busy but if you cant speak to brendan, ken will be the next person i would ask for.

After a bit of ringing around I settled on a local 4wd suspension specialist.

He said that he fitted at least 1 D40 suspension upgrade a week. Mostly tradies that were disapointed with what Nissan had offered them from new.

He recomended a Ironman kit with a Pollyair HD bellows air bag kit.

I got it fitted last Friday. It's great. So much better to ride in than it was.

Just on $2g fitted.

Yeah it rides good. Pleased with it.

Yet to hook up the Camprite but should be able to adjust the air pressure in the bags to compensate for the weight.

just be careful with the polyair bags in the rear. there has been a few cases of split chassis rails is the leaf sprung rears. dont put your psi in the bags to high and put to much weight on it. i personally wouldnt of gone airbags buts everyone is different.

just thought id let you know about the bags and loading up.

ut it does look neat lifted good stuff

What, in the D40 Navs???

Havn't heard of too many myself.

The local suspension guy tells me that as long as the leaf springs are upgraded with something decent the bags will be fine.

i have heard that if not set up properly and integrated in with a complete suspension upgrade so the load is distributed evenly, they can damage chassis. the other problem is when you carry an excessive load with to much air in the bags, and get the ute in a position where it is at full flex (imo its pretty unlikely that anyone would do this) the bags can act like a pivot point and again damage the chassis.
it sounds like you have got a decent set up so personally i dont think you will have a problem.
its always good to know what problems you may have so you can avoid those issues.

The bags can act like a pivot point if set to hard. The rear half of the chassis gets metal fatigue and cracks.

What I'm asking is who has had this happen in a D40?

Sure it may happen if the extremes are in place but I highly doubt I will ever have a problem using mine for what I have planned for it.

I am not loosing any sleep over it.
