Hi all.

New to this forum so sorry if I'm a little out of touch.
I've just purchased a brand new D40 ST auto from my local dealer. The price was great and it seems a solid and decent vehicle.

I had a D40 as a work vehicle a few years ago and couldn't really fault it, although it hadn't done many miles or had a hard life.
Basically I'm looking on YouTube and Google searching the D40 and there seems a lot of bad press about them. DPF issues, vehicle going into limp mode and shoddy product support from the dealer.

Is there anything I should or shouldn't do? Any dramas that may rear their ugly head or any common faults? Also any advice for modifications to further improve reliability and economy would be great.

Look forward to hearing from you guys.

Cheers
Karl

Welcome to the forum,
Try have a read through the forum as all of the things you have asked have been asked and discussed at length many times before so much so that you may not always get a huge response.

Anyway there are a few things that pop up, D40's no longer run a DPF and some of the other faults seemed to be for specific models, however the current ST doesnt yet seem to have some of the old issues.
My recommendation is just drive it and service it and enjoy it, dont stress about things that may or may not happen.

I have had two D40's now 2010 ST done 100k no probs and it copped allot of 4x4 use, i now have a 2012 and so far all good with 65k on the clock, i did have the front diffs pinion shaft snap but that wasnt really a surprise after doing some of the tracks that i had asked it to do and probably pushed it a little bit to far especially running 33" tyres.

Any have a read through the forum and enjoy the new ride.
Regards,
Nathan.

Welcome to the forum.

As Nathan says, there's no DPF any more. Turbocharger actuator issues seem to be resolved, EGR software glitch is fixed, not sure on timing chains but I can't imagine they're still using Tiny Tikes branded chains in there.

Enjoy the new ride!

Welcome to the forum, personally I don't believe half the stuff I see or hear and read. There's a lot of biased opinion out there. Holden versus ford, nissan versus Toyota, there's a few owners on here who have gone onto other makes of vehicles and there's a few who have bought another navara, mate of mine is on his second d40, and I,m pissed off that he wouldn't sell it to me at the trade in price

Welcome. Nath & Tony have pretty much told you all you need to know. The D40 auto for some reason do not like towing large loads up hill 2.5-3ton. 2 ways around that, 1 turn vcd off and give it the berries on the flat you still loss power and slow down tho on the hill. Tony Suggested to me about picking a lower gear and riding the toqure band so approx 2gs. That was great adive same hill slected 3 and held her at about 2200. Powered up the hill nice and smooth took time but was alot smoother and didnt feel like I was about to blow up the car.

Thanks lads.

Yeah I try not to take on board too much of what I read on the net. Plenty of contractors use D40's out here at the mines as site vehicles and they seem to cop a flogging pretty well. All much of a muchness I guess, just comes down to price and value for money at the end of the day.

Ford couldn't even come close to Nissans price. I was quoted 50k for a new auto XLT dual cab from the dealer and that was with my 9% Hastings Deering discount. I picked up the Navara for $38990 D/A, can't beat that for an auto ST.
