i do my d40 engine oil every 10, the rest every 40, fuel filter gets every 40

and i gotta say i havent had any problems with my d40, other than wear and tear, its 7 years old with 210k on it so i think when i gotta change a drive shaft or cv boot here and there its not all that bad, never had anything blow up yet touch wood

Sweet! Too easy :)

Thanks Rusty and Dave. I'm pretty fussy with servicing my cars. This is my first diesel though, so you'd suggest fluid changes every 5k? The servicing in the log book is every 10k isn't it? I service my Subaru every 8 to 10 k but in saying that its petrol.

I had my D22 for five years and as i do allot of kms for work it ended up with over 370,000km on the clock and i never had a major issue.

All servicing was done every 10,000km with out fail.

for the cost of a fuel filter i did those mostly every 10k as well, sometimes every 20k, if i didnt change it at 10k i would at least drain it to make sure there was no water in the bottom.

Air filter every 20k unless i did allot of dirt roads in convoy ect, but would pul it out and hit it with the compressor every 5k

Gearbox, transfer, and diffs as per book or if i had been doing allot of off road and deep water crossing i would change them out just to be safe, BUT in all reality that probably was done twice or three times over its life outside of the scheduled changes.

I also did my changes at 10K in both my D40 which use the same engine you are running in yours, there is a good case however that with the YD25 engine you have in the late model D22's that they do seem to like more frequent changes due to the timing chain issue some have had.

Dont freak out if you miss the odd 5k change tho 10k will still be ok IMO.

My New Ranger's book says every 15K, but im doing a oil only change at 7500km because i think 15k is too long im not sure how great the oils really are to go that sort of a gap between changes.

You could do the same with yours, drop the oil at 5k and do the filter and oil every 10k?

have i confused you yet? ive confused my self:hmmmm2: i think i need a little lie down :sarcastic:

You will find everyone is different is service timing, I do mine a 5-7k others do every 10, just depends how pedantic You are about your truck.
I do oil and filter on one service then just oil the next then oil and filter again. I notice a difference in my engine after a service, seems cleaner smothers and less noisy and a little more oomph though I have 180k on it now.

I've had mine since new and serviced it myself since day one also and do it every 10k with filter. Fuel filter I was doing every 10k but now do them every 20k due to the price of using genuine filters after having hit and miss trouble with after market ones. I also use full synthetic Nulon oils in everything and their additives.
Cheers. Brad.

genuine fuel filters for the d40 are ridiculous, i finally found a guy here in perth that does em aftermarket for around 30 bucks, (bought a royco last time at trade price from repco for 120, felt kinda violated after that)

and are all these women around gonna make this place start smelling nice???? it kinda needs it,

I'm pretty pedantic about my cars full stop so I'd say I'll be doing it early.

Cheers guys. I've found nulon to be pretty good. I've been using it for a while and penrite. Found them to be pretty good quality fluids. It definitely pays to shop around Connaught. I get supercheap stuff for pretty much cost price so might be able to find a few goodies there for my ute too.
