New double DIN head unit stereo

was going to ask if anyone knew weather the wiring harness would just plug straight in. and if the harness on the spanish built d40's are the same as the new ST thai built ones??
im keen to look into getting this stereo... anyone have any idea of a website or anything for this dig options? guessing they are in perth, but as im in sydney i would like to find someone over here incase i have trouble installing it

No, they are in Qld......I think?

I'm told by the Canadian mob (see below web link) that they are plug n play. The only thing that needs to be done is to drill a few holes to match up the brackets and you are done. Easy peasy! I'm going to have a crack at it in the coming weeks.

Having done a bit of research i've learnt you can get this unit from three places (there could be more).

1. Manufacturers rep in China (approx $650 delivered - good web site and fast at answering questions - will need a plug mod)

2 din Nissan gps navigation - Nissan Versa dvd Radio - Nissan XTrail multimedia entertainment - Aftermarket Nissan Xterra stereo headunit

2. Canadian distributor (Ebay or Web) (approx $720 delivered - reputable company based in Toronto - plug and play - no mods)

I guess it'll depend on what value you put on service and warranty. If the unit fails it has to be returned to the supplier. That to me (WA) is a cost of $40 to Qld (3 week turn around) or $70 to China or Canada (9 week turn around). All have got good after sales support. Do i pay the extra $550.00 to buy from an Aussie company)?????

I won't influence, criticise or comment on what anyone else chooses to do. It is there decision. I know where i'm getting it from.

" The unit on ebay is exactly the same as the ones I was looking at importing myself however there is an issue with the radio reception in them. They are manufactured by Roadrover in China and there has been issues with the radio reception in Australia. Also..... be wary buying these things through ebay. You can bet your left nut the GPS software and Sensis mapping will be copied/illegal. Not that its a big issue because that stuff goes on everyday. The problem is Sensis Aust. and the Software provider hunt them down and close them down leaving you with no warranty fall back. Beleive me I have been through 12 months of headaches trying to sort these little issues out. Sometimes its best to stick with a brand name and pay the extra for peace of mind."

Radio issues hey.

Woody, you have any issues with radio reception in Newman???

The Canadian mob give you a licenced April 2010 Igo8 maps with there unit and i'm sure Digioptions supply something similar.

I think if you leek at the advantages of these units they far outweigh anything else. I think Woody has made a great purchase and i'll be following him shortly.

Has anyone had any issues with thier ebay units? i keep on umming and arrrrring on which way to go and if they are half as good as they appear thinking i might just go for it. would be interested in feedback with any probs and how or if they have over come them? not so much with installation but operating systems , glitches ect

Jon had a complete thread about his ebay Nav system, not sure which seller he went through but it's probably in the thread. I've also considered the ebay option but like you never found enough info to suggest it was a good purchase from either the aussie supplier (digioptions I think) or the multitude of Chinese suppliers which probably all come from the same address anyway.

I remember numerous threads on here which stated there was some problems fitting some of these units to a D40 because of a cross member or some such thing but I'm fairly sure that problem had a Jaycar (or similar) solution almost immediately. I also remember talk about the imported ones not having all the same specs are the dearer models but I'm not sure anything really definitive was hashed out in terms of their reliability.

ok - "Slight" thread dig - but it's better than starting a new one..

Currently looking at replacing the Double Din head unit in the Nav for an All-in-One unit.. I saw that DIG Options has been mentioned and found this

Cheers Mike.. I am not wanting to lay down "Bulk" monies on it.. It's a 2008 Model so no steering wheel controls..

The bluetooth on the factory unit is ***** - and thought it would be good to have some more integration.. at $479 the DIG sounds ok - I just don't want it to be totally *****..

I put a Dig Options in my 2010 Navara ST-X 18 months ago and haven't had any dramas with it. It works great.

For me, the price ($449) it suited exactly what I wanted and was the best solution at the time for a hi-res review monitor for the cameras on the back of my ute and caravan and Bluetooth hands free/player upgrade, GPS was a bones. A $1 - $2k upgrade for sound quality and Bluetooth wasn't worth it to me - that money went towards the camera system on the ute and van and plenty of other accessories.

I can point / tell you out the following:
- I had no issues with the antenna hitting any of the dash/frame/steel work during my install (2010 Navara ST-X (Spanish built))

- Fitting was pretty straight forward good instructions provided - as usual the aftermarket mounting brackets and screw holes didn’t line up 100%, but a bit of extra time to line up against the factory unit and trail fit before putting it all back together made it look just like was there from the factory (I'm a perfectionist).

- Steering wheel controls work without requiring extra modules as noted on the tech specs. I just wished the instructions said to check the programming of the head unit in large print before doubting my wiring (worked it out after pulling out the head unit - rookie man-mistake not reading all the instructions).

- Sound quality (of the 18 month old DIG unit) definitely lacks the quality that of big name brands in car audio and the factory unit. Your link is different to the model I have – it notes DSP for better sound on the new one which can only be a bonus. If you want the best sound repro and you’re an audiophile – look elsewhere. It’s plenty loud, clear and good enough though - with kidlets in the back seat for long road trips or for long solo trips (I’ve never had the though ‘gee I’ve got to upgrade it’ - and I like my music so it must be ok). My kiddies aren’t old enough yet but eh dual zone works ok but given both zones in the Navara are so close I don’t think there’s any use to it (headphone for the kiddies is the best option)

- Hands free with mic (of the 18 month old DIG unit) is definitely a huge step up from the factory unit but still could do with improvement (some echoing – I find this worse when talking to someone else who is also on hands free for some reason). I also find there is too much cabin/road noise for any decent conversation above 80km/h so it’s not a huge factor when choosing an head unit.

- Bluetooth and USB – works a treat with iPhone and that’s the second major point for buying this unit at the time. The wifey can manage the playlist list and me by the steering wheel controls when where’re on out touring. Even with 2 iOS updates since the install it has kept working without issue (FWIW – my $1500 alpine head unit in the other car had to be updated each time with an Android app just to support iOS6&7. I’m sure when iOS8 is released it will be the end of the life for my Alpine head unit). Managing phones and phone calls is great too – automatically connects when entering the car and works great with incoming calls, etc. big screen for dialling on the go is easy to work. Great for listing to and deleting voice messages when on the run.

- GPS – I don’t have off road maps and still prefer to have the dash mounted GPS instead of swapping between camera / music / GPS. I have used the built in GPS twice and worked great with good speed accuracy on both occasions but entering in the data and responsiveness of the system to start up is slow.

- Head unit freezing – I have experienced this a few times. Not an issue, just power down and back on when it happens. I have never had any drams on day to day use on radio or BT. It only seem to play up when you give the software a real workout changing between inputs and pressing a heap of buttons back and forth and so on…

- Reverse camera / high resolution screen works a treat – powers on the video input when reverse is selected/triggered, it can be a bit slow if the head unit is not already turned on (as one would expect) but works great when head unit is on already – I wouldn’t have a car without it especially my Navara with a canopy to see through…. I have a manual override switch installed to have the reverse input triggered at my will, thus when towing the van the rear view camera stays on all day and the radio or BT audio streams continuously with it. I can check my hitch and cables and turning radius in trick manoeuvres, or keep an eye on traffic behind me. Keep in mind the DIG unit had a standard video input, some other big name brands require special video camera connections (i.e. limiting what you can connect to it if you are planning to run multiple cameras). I use a Polaris rear vision control box for multiple video (a whole other kettle of fish… overrated gear (definitely not worth buying a Polaris HD video monitor just for reversing cameras – the DIG unit display is heaps better and one less thing to mount on the dash).

Would I buy a DIG unit again – yeah I would – unless I could get a big name brand that does all the same or better for under $500.

So, I just spent a good chunk of the day installing the Dig Options unit...

Installation was a breeze.. Remove the old headunit, unplug all the factory Loom and install the supplied loom for the new head unit.. The screws on the mounts need a little "caressing" to line up with the DIG Head unit, but that was 10 minutes with a dremel.. This is also needed for the surround to fit back on properly.. The plugs are well labelled and really can only go in one spot (the rear has approx 10 inputs that can be wired in, and each one has it's own cabling supplied)..

Everything that you will need is in the kit.. Antenna, plugs, and plenty of "option" cables. It even comes with RCA outs if you're going to wire in an Amp..

The Reverse camera took the longest (obviously) but the hardest part was running the wires down the passenger side and out through the rear of the cab.. 12V was picked up from the Reverse lights and BAM - when reverse is selected the screen swaps over. Worked first time! Clear and accurate..

The DVD player works a treat.. easy and fast.. Family guy was my test and it was clear in sound and colour..

The USB input reads all sorts of "downloaded" file types. I had no trouble with any format that I usually use. I wired this into the TOP glove box and will leave a 16gig USB in there with movies / shows for when Im sitting around waiting...

The Radio tunes in quick and easily..I had a few hiccups, but that was mainly my fault for being inpatient and not RTFM-ing

Bluetooth sync works a charm.. It downloaded my contacts quickly and I was able to dial from the headunit (or search by name / missed calls / dialed calls) with ease.. Hands free was crystal clear.. It has 2 mics (one in the head unit) and the 2nd one I mounted on the windscreen - MUCH better than the stock unit.

The bluetooth audio quality too was impressive - streaming music from Spotify on my iPhone I was able to skip to the next track by using the headunit.. Clear stereo bluetooth sound.. It also showed up songname (which was nice - given spotify is an app)..

I also wired in the iPhone connection, so it could be used to charge my phone - and it too works well as input.. little more fiddly to use, but again It could be my impatience..

NO Hitting of the rear bar was evident. There was more than enough room down there, even with the plethora of new wires..

GPS works a treat.. quick and accurate.. Even tells you that you are speeding.. It will voice over music so you can still listen to your stereo and it will pipe in when turn (or slow down).. I had a brief play with the OffRoad maps, but it completely lost me.. That's something for another day..

SOUND - the big one... I was a little concerned when I read the above about it not being as good as the Factory unit.. Fortunately I can report that it is MILES better than the stock unit.. It comes with a Digital Signal Processor AND an 11 channel Graphic Equaliser (I only found the latter after having a play). Bass is plentiful and punchy (unless pressed really hard), and it also has SUB control if you have on wired in.. You can set volume levels for ALL inputs if one is found to be much louder than the others. I found the DVD volume too low and when switching back to radio it was BLASTING.. I simply adjusted the DVD volume up to +5 and it fixed the problem.

So for my all up investment of just $500 - I got a system that does more than I could hope for, and more, without paying the big $$$ of a big name Audio company..

If you're in the market for a stock headunit replacement - going by what I have seen so far, I'd give it the thumbs up....

stereo rookie

Big old stereo/ nav forum rookie here, hopefully I've come to the right place. Apologies for the novel.
Decided to bite the bullet and get my hands on a Chinese all in one head unit to replace the stock one. Eonon G2110 to be exact $399. Pulled the stock one out yesterday and plugged in the power connections with a Nissan wiring harness. There’s a long orange tail coming off the Nissan wiring harness which I’m not sure what to do with but so far so good without it connected. Managed to connect to WIFI on it and browse YouTube. Sound quality was decent enough for what I’ve paid and menus seem to scroll through without any lag. Planning on finishing it up tonight, my question is plugged into the Old stock Nissan Stereo was the big white plug, and a smaller white plug with 4 small cables, wired into it; black, white, black, brown. Does anybody know the purpose of this small plug or should I just disregard it as the unit seemed to work fine with just using the bigger white plug connected to the wiring harness. Thanks!
