Just about to spend some hard to come by cash on my 3 year old STX- D40 and not sure what to start with. Only have a tjm bullbar and snorkle, I do a bit of mild of road use and ground clearance is sometimes an issue. Raising would be the go I suppose but what type to get, and the suspension I got now is not worn out and it rides pretty good on the bitchy. Bash plates prob will save the important parts when height issue comes into play but which one to get.....Also I have read a bit about power chips making a big difference is this really the case with the D40 or.......Any advise would be much appriated.
Cheers Ad

If you go offroad go the bash plates, lift it aswell.

What do you want it to do ?

Welcome to the forum!

It depends what you mean by "off-road". Bash plates might be handy there, but if the worst you're going to go through is dealt with by a 50mm lift then maybe that should be your first consideration.

Power chips can be good, but remember that they throw more fuel at the engine in order to provide that extra power. ChipIt states that their chip for the D40 also manipulates the variable turbo - not sure if the 2007 has one, but if it does, the ChipIt chip would be the one to look at first.

While you're at it, fit a recovery point or two to the front and to the rear.

All D40's run Variable vane turbo's.

They would be an absolute pig to drive if they didn't.

I can't help but think that if my D40 had the turbo from a D22 on it (and the appropriate ECU changes to accommodate the different turbo) then my power would come in more smoothly.

That said, I'm not likely to want to swap.

I don't know how far back the variable turbos were introduced. In that case, the ChipIt chip would definitely be worth looking at, if you wanted a power boost. Exhaust change will give you some boost too, maybe you want to consider a complete 3" system.

Oh, you could also stick a blank piece of stainless steel in your EGR. Not a big boost there, but it's cheap to do and won't inhibit the motor.
