Well it wasn't defined FB and since there are soooo many DPF threads stating manuals don't have DPF's it's not unreasonable to assume the OP had done enough research to eliminate his vehicle if it was a manual. Mind you for me it would bring into question the knowledge of the mechanic.

That tools my next question in fact. Is this mechanic ripping the OP or just hasn't researched specs correctly or does he not know why a DPF is?
 
Unfortunately there are some mechs out there that do have no idea about them because their main work is on petrol cars, whether that's the case here I don't know but I'd definitely look into.
 
Then again if I wasn't with Nissan I'd be taking my vehicle to a diesel specialist. But having someone specialized working on your car isn't for everyone
 
My mech didn't need to know about DPF's until I came along with the D40, and then 3 months later they got their first bus with a DPF so he had to learn more, but for a mech in a small business that doesn't see too many DPF's it would be easy to ignore them.
 
Thanks for clearing it up guys! Ill now question my mechanic.
But im curious by using a oil that is supposdly for dpf d40s which is the caltex fully synthetic c3 what has my mechanic done to the engine? Its done 10,000 ks on the above oil.

About all he will have done is wasted your money. DPF rated oil is different but not specifically for DPF fitted engines.

There's an oil thread, both generic and D40 specific, where members discuss the oils they use and why. I'm sure they are both stickies in their respective sections.
 
It's something Nissan wanted to use on a vehicle and we can only guess what they were thinking. Autos generally rev a little more and use a little more fuel, so it might be a mechanism to reduce emissions towards the level of the manual.

As far as the oil goes - the DPF-rated oil is better quality oil anyway. It does the exact same job inside your engine but when it's combusted (through the PCV) it combusts more completely, providing much less solid ash.
