Ohh! I see - it's your rear bar. Looked like a dead horse wrapped in plastic through my pre-coffee bleary eyes.

Rear bar now fitted with a pair of shoes and rims, Rear springs are now over the limit so will have to look at some heavier springs or maybe a helper spring, Suggestions?

Also fitted a CTek D250s Dual charger in the back next to the battery, just ned a solar panel to keep up the charge.

If you're not going to tow, think about air bags. You have the ability to inflate lots when heavily loaded, a little when lightly loaded and then just whatever when unloaded.

The problem with stiff leaves is you will have a very rough ride when you're unloaded and there's no way to fix that except change your leaves.

If you regularly tow and carry weight, then stiff leaves are the way to go. If the 40 is more of a 'car' then air bags may be a better option.

Just remember, air bags and towing don't go well together, I'm sure you woukld have heard and/or seen pics of utes with bent chassis' from people using air bags when towing.

I leaning towards a set of bags but after the stories I've heard I'm not sure which way to go. Like siringo says a trip now again with bag are fine but a 300kg set of springs are permanent, Also more expensive as the kit i was looking at was around $1600... hmm what to do still want to get a chip in before September too.....

What rated leaves do you have now??

I updated mine from stock to 250Kg's and they are bearable unloaded. I have an alloy tray and canopy, so there's not alot of weight over the rear. If you're still running stock rear leaves, and are thinking of upgrading to 300Kg leaves I'd say you would be OK when the truck is unladen.

But, you may find 300Kg leaves are still not stiff enough when loaded, you still might sag. That's the beauty of air bags, you just put more air in 'em.

I suggest you have a chat with some professionals. It's not rocket science, but experience is always a good investment.

that rear bar looks the goods.

anyone have thoughts about those ironman load helper springs? you can tighten them up when you have it packed and back them off when running empty.

yer 250kgs are fitted atm bags might be enough to bring it up. Eug thats what i was thinking but never thought much about ironman think they could be a waste of money....

Very nice looking car Gunning!
You can go anywhere now.
In regards to springs, I had my car on a weight bridge once I had all my accessories on = 2850Kg.
I went to see Splicers Springs in Melbourne and they reset my OME 400Kg plus they replaced the third leaf spring with a much stronger one.
My suggestion is weight your car in normal set up and touring set up and if you have a lot of difference then you probably need bags.

Cheers

Hey gunning your rear bar looks sweeeeet . As for the rear sus I don't think there is an easy option IMO air bags put pressure on part of the chassis that isn't designed to take it, however with the gear you have on there now you would prob need a spring that would be awful when unloaded. As for talking to suspension shops I have gotten four diff answers from four shops about my setup so am feeling no wiser... Heaps of guys on here rave about Zordo maybe ask him for advice.... Just a suggestion. Hope your trip is everything you hope it will be. Ben

Yer I might catch up with zordo and have a chat, With regards of the rear springs. A extra leaf might be a far cheaper choice then a whole new spring set, As the car is always packed and ready to go Constant Spring are worth more then a set of bags, plus will have change for a chip.

Cars booked in with zordo at the end of the month, also getting him to replace the lower strut bushes that are totally U/S!

Couple of pictures from the weekend out at Gordon country, Was bloody freezing and was stuck in low range all weekend till nissan towed it away back to warrick to get manually moved back into 2wd so I could drive back home...:Gillard:!!!

Also Rear battery shagged itself, which was fine as it was a old one that was laying around so have ordered a DEKA Seamate AGM battery and looking for a new starter battery aswell, Optima red top is looking to be fitted??

That's a real nice looking truck mate. What was the cause of the shifter issue?

The main battery went flat and I had left the transfer case in LO4, When the car firsts does a check on start-up then transfer case doesnt know where the fork sits and goes straight into error mode.

All that needs to be done is pull the actuator off and spin the shaft back into 2wd with the ing on and it is fine. I wish they could just say that over the phone.....

You'd reckon that a proximity switch would be all that is required to tell the ecu where the fork is?

yer its really stupid as there is a lo4 detent switch and a hi4 detent switch but the ecu wants it in 2wd fors its sweep, Looking at bypassing the lot anyway.
