Meter fuse blowing..

Hey guys.
My mate has a problem with his Nav whereby at seemingly random times the meter fuse blows. This stops the car from charging. We have tried a replacement alternator, with no improvement.
A new fuse seems to last 5 or 10 minutes, during which time the car charges fine, although the charge light comes on at idle. He reckons it's always been like that however, and he's had the car 5 odd years.
Any ideas?

Not to worry fellas.
Seems we'd torn one of the wires fron the transfer nuetral position switch, and it'd been earthing on the box.

Same thing has happend to my 2008 navara, didnt know where to start looking until i read this, thanks alot, common problem caused by the plastic retainer which holds the wires over the switch....
