Manual control of idle speed

Hand throttles are helpful in three scenarios, none of which have anything to do with learning to drive to suit conditions;
- low speed "cruise control" of sorts, such as when you're collecting hay bales from a paddock. Chuck it in first low and let it crawl along while guys chuck bales on the back, makes it easier for the driver to be smooth. I'm sure there's a similar scenario when hunting from the back of a 4x4.
- really really steep off-road hill starts where the handbrake is useless (especially as engines become more and more boost dependent, and so need more throttle to take off)
- rough slow going where you want a constant throttle position, unaffected by the fact that the driver is being thrown around the cabin and can't keep their foot still.

Fully electronic. Nothing to "wind".
I used to use the pull throttle on my Triton when I went 4b, it helped a lot when I need to crawl through rocks.

You could always do a modification to the ECU. I'm not sure what the ECU is like, but wiring something in wouldn't be too hard. Besides, surely you could make up a kit to literally pull the accel pedal? That'd give the impression to the ECU.

If it's all electronic, what opens the throttle body? Does the throttle body opening and fuel pump work together, or separately from the ECU?

The neatest and cheapest would be fully electronic, the issue is that the D40 (at least) uses a pair of throttle position sensors with different resistance ranges, so altering both in perfect synchronicity so as not to piss off the ECU is the tough part.

cable hand throttle fitted to the pedal is easy enough.

or use a cruise control unit but mod it to use rpm input instead of speed.

Am thinking of a method - putting a cable on behind the pedal and join to a hand throttle kit so that why I don't have to mess with any electronics. Any ideas? Is there such a hand throttle kit out there?

I doubt there'd be a kit. But you'd need to drill into the pedal arm to secure a wire, then ensure there is sufficient pulleys or blocks to withstand the tension of the cable from the pedal to the pull throttle.

I think you might need to add like a 3 or 4 pulley system, to smooth it out and make it less sensitive.

Old thread i know but what about just putting something of the correct size on the pedal return stop? Hold it with a bit of velcro so you can just pull it out when you dont want it.
