My 02 d22 str dual cab has some bad knocks. Sounds like it's coming from the back. Going over a rough road or any bumps really, I can hear and sort of feel it. Any ideas?
I can't say I know what stuffed shocks sound or feel like, but it might be that.

Front body mount is a regular issue might be worth checking. take it to pedders and they will have a look at the suspension.

Could be the front, just really sounds like the back. It's booked in Tuesday for 120km service. I'll get them to look at it. I got 3 months warranty on it from the dealer so if nissan find anything I'll take it back to the dealer and they can fix it.

Noise is still there. Mechanic said there were no issues. I put the ride on mower on the trailer today and hooked it on the navara, the noise almost went away. It's still there but not as bad. Ideas?

Check you're rear suspension bushes for excess movement within the eyelets, u might need a pry bar to move them.

Also check shock bushes.

Unlikely for the shocks themselves to make a knocking sound.

Putting the trailer on may have reduced the movement.

I had stuffed bushes in the back of my Patrol so bad that if u got on/off the throttle it felt like the rear diff was about to fall out. But it was 4 rooted upper control arm bushes (Navara doesn't have those tho).

Check that its not the tow ball thats loose, or the hitch sitting in the bar its self or if you have a shackle it maybe just that moving around. My old man had this issue on his Hilux and fixed it by welding a nut and drilling a hole and presto throw in a bolt and its sound and secure never to rattle again.

Thanks guys ill check it out. Mechanic said the rattle was the tow bar, and while it did get rid of one sound the main was was still there. I have thought it was always the suspension, but cant find where. Ill get under tomorrow and check it out. I have takedn shackles and tow balls off etc. I did find the tub was missing a bolt and the other side was lose, replaced the bolt etc but no different.

Does the tub have any rubber mounts etc or are there just bolts? I still have the noise and have removed the spare wheel, tow bars, canopy etc. I still reckon its coming from underneath. I thought maybe the rubber mounts or bushes between the tub and chassis might be buggered (if they have any).

Well, ive done the tail gate hinges, tightened the side steps, removed the spare wheel and canopy, tow bar and jack etc from behind seat. Tightened all the bolts i can see to do with the tub. Also removed the back seat. I cant bloody find where the noise is coming from. I have it booked in tomorrow with a different mechanic to see if he can pin point it. I still reckon its the springs or something. See what happens tomorrow. If he cant find anything, anyone wanna buy a navara lol.

I have a knock too that is bugging me and I cannot find it. Come to think of it I always seem to be chasing knocks, rattles and squeaks with this car. Will be following this post to see what you find. Keep us posted.

Tub should have rubber between it and the chassis. Dunno if it's the same problem, but my mum bought a falcon a few years ago now, had a rattle in the rear end that the guy selling it reckons was the exhaust. Anyway, long story short, it had new springs and shocks in it and they hadn't tightened the lower shock mounts properly. I got a breaker bar on them and did them up properly and the sound was gone....

Mind you they run coils in the sedans, but as mentioned above it sounds like a bush problem either in leaves or shocks....

If you have the ability you could always pull the tub off and see if the noise is still there....

No its not lifted ( i dont think so anyways ). It has pedders comfort shocks in the front, cant read the back ones. I thought about pulling the tub off but really couldnt be stuffed, but maybe i should just to make sure. Getting it looked at tomorrow so ill see what this mechanic has to say.
The leaves are pretty flat and not much spring in them. I had plans to grab a tough dog lift from ebay and throw it in soon anyways.

So apparently it's the springs themselves hitting on each other. There is movement in them. Something to do with a nylon something or other.... The bushes are fine, just the actual leaves.
