Hello every one just joined from the QLD just starting to perk up the D40 petrol 08 loven the fuel prices right now...

welcome to the forum, how long have you had the D40?
what sort of mods are you doing or have you done to it?

Welcome to the forum!

With the petrol D40 one of the mods I'd be considering is a long range tank - you should be getting around 430km when the fuel light comes on now, and a long range tank should take that out to about 900km (assuming moderate city driving getting 15LPHK).

It should still perform well off-road (except in water crossings), so if you were coming to the muster (Janowen Hills, Oct 2013) you could do the tracks but maybe not the Condamine Gorge run (14 river crossings, some could get bonnet-deep).

Thanks, had the navara about 6 months it's got 150,000 km I have installed ironman 2" lift having a few issues with it leaf springs are squeaking like mad and I'm on the second pair of rear shocks because of a knocking sound ( that's come back) hopefully sort it out soon , it's got a arb canopy and racks factory ally bar k&n air filter , chopped the big old muff off and replaced it with a straight through but made the cab too noisy so went for a different one , it made a difference in fuel more ks, I'm getting about 460km tray loaded , I have been looking into this hydrogen fuel generator that puts gas into you system give you better fuel economy apparently ..

The engine is designed for petrol, put premium in it and drive it.

Enjoy the forum.

Thanks old tony might look into that I have been looking at these hydrogen gas systems that put gas into your air intake and it makes your fuel burn completely so you get more ks per tanks have you herd of anyone trying this?

I can't say I've heard of anyone injecting hydrogen. LP Gas, sure. Alcohol, sure. Even water - but not pure hydrogen.

There are a couple of things inhibiting combustion in your engine right now. Your engine passes exhaust gas into the intake manifold via an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system and through the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system. You can safely block the EGR, but the PCV also emits oil vapour and you need a means of catching that (most people fit a catch can, but feed the outlet back into the intake manifold anyway).

It is illegal to block or remove either of these but the odds of being caught are extremely low. Usually when a highway patrol pulls you over they're more interested in tyres, noisy exhausts, nitrous oxide bottles and obvious signs of rust. They are very unlikely to dismantle the EGR piping to look for a blanking plate.

If you're still hankering for some extra beans - like a significant increase - why not look at a turbocharger, even a twin system?

Thanks for that info I will look into those things . The hydrogen gas generator makes gas from water fed into the air intake pipe it is supposed to increase fuel economy of up to 30% by burning the fuel completely in the cylinder which reduces the emissions coming out the exhaust there are a few systems on YouTube .

Welcome mate.

The hydrogen gas generator does work- in a sense. Only problem is the power to generate the hydrogen has to come from somewhere. That somewhere is a very high current draw (around 30amps from memory) off your trucks electrical system. which in turn places greater load on your engine thus negating the benefit on hydrogen augmentation.

There is no getting around the first law of thermodynamics- Energy can not be created or destroyed, you can only change it's form. In other words, there is no such thing as a free lunch. which is a real bugger.

Hey Mate,

I'd be wary of these systems. Have a read of:
