Hi there, my names James. I run landscape company based in Market Haroborugh and iv had a D22 and now have a D40.

The D40's going back to the fleet company in December and i reckon im going to buy outright a D22 again.

I keep reading horror stories though about con rods launching etc. etc. !!!!

My previous D22 (02 plate) had the cam chain tensioner mod and ran sweet on the same clutch up to when i sold it @ 144k miles with towing and being caned on a daily basis :) never missed a beat

Whats the mysterious fault with the con rods then??? and more importantly whats the factory mod' i need to make sure that has been carried out, if any ???

Cheers

James

Welcome to the forum, James.

I think there's a motor that goes 'bang' in the older Patrols, but the Navara version wasn't an issue and it was a few years ago. Current model D22s seem to be ok in the engine department.

Welcome to the forums James,

Given your location points towards you being a UK resident I'd suggest you look at the UK Nav forums for a bit more specific info on the problems your are talking about. I'm not suggesting there hasn't be a con rod issue in Australia but I am unaware of any such issues and bad news seems to travel fairly fast when it comes to these sort of problems.

Although we all drive similar vehicles it appears that a number of faults are country specific, for instance the aussie bonnet recall for D40's doesn't appear to have been issued in too many other countries yet. The con rod issue you speak of may be limited to only specific climates or some such silly thing. I would have thought if there was an issue with con rods launching themselves someone on this site would have been bitching about it. A quick look through threads like the DPF thread shows that when people aren't happy they state their case and I don't think I've read any threads relating to con rods.

Anyway I hope you find what you're after and maybe if you do you can let us know what you find out in case we all start suffering from it.

Its only a UK thing in the YD25DDTI non CRD motor, there bearings were tin and copper which couldn't hold up.

Most people go back to lead tin bearings.

Dave.
