Hi Guys
Went to start my ute the other day and the engine light came and it went into limp home mode. Took it to my mechanic and he has these fault codes
P0031
P0077
P0072
He spoke to the local Nissan dealer and they said they dont like working on the ZD30 unless it is just a service. Great response! He thinks they are due to a pump failure of some kind but no one can tell him exactly what these codes are for on the zd30. Anyone out there got a Nissan zd30 code book or know what this combination of codes means. I think I have a dead pump but without being able to read the codes properly it makes diagnosis hard. I have looked up generic codes but apparently the zd30 ones are different to these. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P0031 is Oxygen heater.
P0077 is the Intake Valve Control Solenoid
P0072 is ambient temp sensor low

I'm going to guess the temp sensor is probably in your intake. A problem with the intake sensors could very easily cause your car to go into limp mode. A user from here (Bosshog) had his MAFS fail (similar thing - measures air temp and flow rate in the intake) and his car went into limp mode and wouldn't come back out. Replacing the sensor was the solution there. You may be able to just clean yours with some electrical contact cleaner.

The oxygen heater may be tied to the oxygen sensor in the exhaust. If that fails, the ECU could overfuel (it has to sense SOME oxygen in the exhaust stream in a diesel). Not ever detecting oxygen in the exhaust could mean the fuel pump is overworking (and this might be where they came up with the fuel pump solution). It is possible that this is a result of your fuel pump overworking, and that itself might actually be a result of your fuel pressure sender not working properly.

I've found a reasonable web site for engine codes (click here). You can ferret around there for info but it won't give you a solution.

After trying your solutions, you might need to reset the ECU to remove the fault light. That's easy - get your radio PIN handy, write down your trip meter in case it resets, then rmove the battery negative lead from the battery, step on the brake pedal for a couple of seconds then reconnect the battery - the ECU should be reset.

That is pissweak. I'd be ringing Nissan Head Office to see what they think of that kind of attitude from a dealer.
