Damn thing still gets a 3 star ancap rating, that beats the first gen GW's.

The Foton Tunland with the 2.8 Cummins is another one which has finally reached our shores and passed the right tests. Chinese utes/cars are definitely here to stay and just like Kia and Hyundai years ago that copped all their crap for being cheap atleast some of them will no doubt survive.

The thing is, if you price something low enough it will always sell, thats why I drive a navara instead of a patrol.

Probably the best use for them, as a technical.

I wonder would that pass a trip over the pits.

If it didn't you could easily influence a positive outcome.

Price point is right, we all drive what we drive because we agreed on a price just because most of us here were able to agree on a higher price doesn't mean others can or even want to.

With the number of complaints people on this forum make about Narava's and the number who go on about how old technology is best and that newer bits and pieces are bound to break it's surprising more people aren't considering these 'cheap' utes made from the parts they seem to think are the only parts worth having.

Sweet Jesus, Krafty - there's more insight in that post than I've managed in a month of navel contemplation. Too bloody right, mate - and all too often we think that the grass is greener elsewhere and don't appreciate that not only did we make a fairly reasonable choice, but the other vehicles we could have chosen all have their own idiosyncrasies.

That said, of course, I could buy a GW POS for $25K, spend $20K on lifting, grunting and protecting it and turn it into a beast that could go places my $60K machine couldn't dream of going to. I am not interested, personally - because I tow (as y'all know) and appreciate the ease with which the Navara does what we ask of it.

I saw one of these Foton's yesterday for the first time ever and had to get online to see what it was. I have to say it looks the best out of the cheaper utes. ($35k for top spec 4x4 with 2.8 cummins). Has a big wellside compaqred to others too. The one I saw had a colour coded grill which looked better.

Foton gets a 3 star ANCAP rating too, one complaint seems to be that they don't have ABS and for $34K most 'experts' think it should have ABS but apparently the same experts rate it higher than the first offerings from GW and SingSong

I thought Dave might get one of those only because it has a cummins engine in it, lol.

They do have ABS and reversing sensors but not stability or traction control, and nor are there side or curtain airbags or an auto gear box although reading the write up's they are hoping to change these spec's as the year progresses.

Maybe this time next year they will be a real choice for people wanting an entry level ute. ( It would be my choice over the Great Wall, Ssangyong or Mahindra Pik-Up.)

Also on looking into the engine I see it is being developed in a slightly different spec for the US Nissan Titan.

Looks alot better than a GW. At least it doesnt have that swollen rounded super low busted arse front end. In saying that, it still looks shit. Looks kind of like the newer Hilux's up front.
