i really like the look of the coast runners but not the price tag does anyone know any cheaper substitutes with similar design

I'm not much of a boat person - I guess a boats a boat i.e. if it floats its' a boat - you could probably get an old table of ebay and do something like this, I can't think it would cost to much.

The local boat industry have been doing it hard the last few years. I would have suggested an AllyCraft to meet your needs, solid and a bit cheaper than Quintrex (in fact I bought one myself) but they closed down about 12 months ago.
There have been other closures in the industry and on top of that Quintrex bought out Stacer and a couple of other brands.
There simply aren't as many options as there were 5 years ago.
One brand that tends to be a bit cheaper than Quintrex is Horizen and they're still going strong.

when it comes to boats ya get what ya pay for. stick with the quintrex you will get better resale also less trip to the chiropractor cause the ride softer with a better hull. i love mine!

you only need to search "quintrex crack hull" to see the many many threads on fishing/boating forums about hull issues associated with that brand. whilst the old old quintrex boats were built solid sadly the same can't be said about the new ones.
what size boat are you looking at? give ausfish.com.au a go.

Yep Eug is spot on, Telwater's (Quintrex/stacer and many other brands) recent quality control has a lot to be desired. I didn't realise Allycraft had gone Geoff, that sad as they were a great boat, I had a 395 Avalon, much better than the 4.2 Dory I had before it. You looking new or second hand Longy? Its a buyers market for second hand boats, you might find yourself a good deal only a few years old and someone has already spent all the money on all the little bits ad peices you don't get on a new boat package.

Cheers i am looking second hand around the 14 to 16 foot size i want something that i can stand and move around in not to big to tow probably around a 50HP motor it will be used mostly for freshwater dams and estuary but i figure if i get something with reasonably deep sides i could sneak outside a couple of kms on a nice calm day price i am still working on but i think somewhere around 15 to 20. 10 would be better but thats not guna happen lol

You could do a LOT worse than a second hand allycraft 445, 450 or 465 they are a much deeper boat than the similar length quintrex.

Even my 4.25 Allycraft is a lot deeper than the same length Quintrex/Stacers (this is a pic when it was almost new, I've since fitted bits and pieces but don't have more recent pics).

x 2, I had the 445 mine was the open dinghy and being 6ft 4 still had to get a back step to save the jewels as climbing over the deep sides was difficult, and wide I could sleep across it. Easily towed and worked a treat in the estuary and ducking over to moreton on the good days,,,,,, I miss i but could not tow it and the camper trailer at once, wish I could daisy chain the trailers...

well a few months later have got a spending limit of 20k ready to buy only problem is the missus has taken a liking to the bow riders after seeing a few does, anyone have any feedback/experience with bow riders in general and different brands.

Old man has a bluefin 5.25m bowrider and its a beautifully built boat, handles very well in chop and has deep sides.
If you can find a second hand bluefin id go for it.
Have been out in a couple of ally craft's and i have to say they give a good ride as well.
I'm not a huge fan of the finishing touches on the stacers they look cheap and a lot of the quintrex's aren't much better. Those millennium hulls look great for chopping through the water but i cant see them being to good under anchor the way there shaped makes me think that waves would really knock them around.
But to be honest instead of worrying about hulls to much id be more worried about what is on the back of them.

I have a 475 quintrex bayhunter caprice use it at sea do trips up to 100k outside of mourylian harbour been caught in storms rough conditions of around30knts and better I would rather be in my new quinine than any of the older ones or for that matter any of the larger fiberglass boats that I have previously owned
