Fitting of D40 roof racks

Hi everybody, I need help with the fitting of my genuine nissan racks i just bought second hand.
They have the attachments that fix above the door seal but also have a moulded steel pin which doesnt seem to fit right once you tighten them.
Does anybody know the story with this. It looks like it should locate in a hole in the door surround.

Mate you'll find that if you open the doors you'll see a locating hole where the pin fits into, front and back door.
