Hi i have an 07 navara spain build, which came out with 17” alloy wheels and I managed to get a hold of a set of 16” original alloy wheels from an 09 Navara. When I fit them, the front rims rub agaisnt the calliper (there is a gap of a hair in between) .

anyone attempted to grind down a little bit of the calliper? I know its not ideal but i dont want to change the whole rotor/caliper to accomodate smaller brakes.

I would have thought your '07 would have 16" wheels & smaller brakes as standard. (I'm assuming YD25?)
My' 08 does.
I could be wrong, but I thought the 17" wheels came along later in the cycle...? (from memory about '10 onwards. ..but someone else should verify)

Is it possible a previous owner has done a brake & wheel upgrade at some point?

As for "adjusting" your larger callipers with a file or an electric finger remover...
I reckon if it's literally a tiny skim (<1mm) it should be OK. But any significant amount of material would not be a good idea IMO.
And I'm not recommending anything - disclaimer etc.

Whats wrong with running 17" wheels?

The other issue with VERY tight clearances between the caliper and the ID of the rim is the high potential for a rock / stone to get wedged in between...Ive seen it score the alloy out so far to virtually part the rim in 2

just depends on your off roading

Hello do you mean the front of the calliper near the spoke or the top of calliper near the rim. I bought a second set of factory wheels and they rubbed on the front. Turned out they were for a Thai model not Spanish the offset was wrong they were +45 instead of +30

the spokes didn’t seem to have the same dish on them as the originals did

Hi all, i got the same issue facing right now, as i got D40 Spanish built 08 but i bought set of wheels of Thai built and my front calibers are literally rubbing against the wheel. Any one recommend to add 6mm spacer to avoid rubbing. Thanks

Just have to check what other issues are introduced in fixing one issue.....need to think thru it

In NSW Australia at least, and I can't say for other jurisdictions - using spacers makes the vehicle unroadworthy.

From an insurance point of view: unroadworthy is the same thing as uninsured. It's one of their magic escape clauses, and they'll measure and weigh anything they think they can use to weasel out of a payout.

I totally agree with your point.

Wanted to reopen this thread after a while as I am in the process of getting new tyres and im contemplating if i should give the 16s a go. My truck is a spain model not sure about the rims though. I was thinking of getting a set of 50mm wheel spacers as I should be able to clear the caliper like that, cos I had already tried with 30mm but they still rubbed. The calipers outer part rubs around the flat part of the inner rim but its very minimal but still risky.

Will take some measurements and keep you posted
