In summer in Australia it wouldn't be a problem. I'd go back to 5w30 during the cooler months.

I've been using Penrite HPR5 5W-40 full synthetic since I bought the D40 nearly 5 years ago.
I spoke to an Engineer in the Penrite Technical Dept just to make sure. They said it would be fine even in the sometimes 40C summer days in Western Australia. I figured they'd be unlikely to endorse an oil grade likely to cause damage.
