Hey guys i did the egr blanking plate on my d40 2.5lt last nite and got no differences in power etc. I used only the original gasket and seemed liked it sealed.. Should have i done anything else to fit it..... Should i notice any difference

Hi,

I just did the egr mod in my zd30 d22 on the weekend. To be honest, I haven't noticed a huge difference in power or performance. It feels a bit more sprightly under acceleration which is to be expected since the egr is no longer dampening the combustion. I also installed a boost gauge a couple of weeks ago & I'm noticing that the boost holds on longer with less fluctuation through the rev range, which also makes sense as all the exhaust gas is now going through the exhaust turbine instead of a portion being diverted through the egr pipe.
Having said that, I don't think most people do the mod for performance gains, rather to stop the build up of crap in the inlet- the small increase in performance is a bonus.
It's probably a good idea to use a small amount of gasket sealant (something like Permatex Ultra Blue) on the inlet side of the blanking plate.
With mine, I removed the entire egr pipe as I installed the thermocouple for my egt gauge at the same time. I made up a plate which fits over the egr port on the exhaust manifold, drilled and tapped a thread for the probe. I re-used the multi layer metal gasket on that side. I also made another plate to blank the egr port on the inlet side and on that one I used Permatex Ultra Blue.

Cheers,

Ben

As above. If you can perceive any difference at all it's marginal at best. A dyno might show the difference if you could turn it on and off fairly quickly, but also as said it's more to prevent the build up of gunk in your intake manifold and allow the fuel to burn more cleanly.

The gunk in the intake manifold comes from two things: black, dry soot from the exhaust and oil vapour from the PCV. Combine the two and you end up with a gluggy mess that restricts flow in the intake.

To resolve both: blank off the EGR and fit a catch can.

Just as an observation, the PCV also vents exhaust gas which enters the intake manifold and dampens combustion. This is much more pronounced at higher load and higher rpm. To resolve that you'd have to vent the PCV to atmo, which is quite illegal.

If you're the type that keeps a close watch on your fuel consumption you may notice an improvement in that rather than outright performance.

Yea sweet. I have 32's and a canopy, awning and roof racks dual battery etc so weight has slowed me down anyways. Reason I asked about performance is people noticed a tad and i just wanted to make sure i fitted the plate correctly.

Thanks for all your input blokes :)

there shouldn't be any change in max performance as EGR is off at full throttle anyway.
however you should notice a change in the part throttle response.
