Sorry mate. I gotta pull you up on that one. the purpose of the Catalytic Converter is to turn Carbon Monoxide into Carbon Dioxide. Everything else you stated is spot on.
Our CATs are fed hydrocarbon (fuel, in our case, AdBlue in trucks, some Mazda passenger vehicles and likely many more) which identifies the device as a three-way catalyst (present in most vehicles after the early 1980s). I neglected to mention the CO-CO2 conversion, thanks for pointing that out. One of my sources is Wikipedia, but I'll also try pull some info from the service manuals when I return home and have my full data library at hand (I'm still at Bathurst, and only have my laptop which doesn't have enough storage for all the manuals etc that I use for reference).
