Had very long chat with a close friend who by chance is a light/heavy/plant/elec auto mechanic who is currently a fitter in the mines & he reckons this is a good mod.

It was due for oil change so I just did this mod, changed the oil & filter and by chance filled with at with BP.

At the moment I want to get better fuel consumption so we will see if it is makes a difference, and I am disgusted at the oil colour.

Next on the list DPF pipe, snorkel and maybe chip-it.

How'd you go ?

The EGR issue was the reason Catapillar pulled out of the road truck game so I am told.

Cummin's are using EGR and having issues with them.

You might like to add a catch can to your list, to remove engine oil from your intake. Note that the catch can's output is still exhaust gas ... I'm not saying much more than that since it's illegal to remove the PCV hose from the intake pipe.

I did the EGR mod on my Brand new Navara D40 which has around 1,500klms on it now and I didn't notice any improvement with it whatsoever. The only reason I was happy doing it was to stop all of that thick black soot that was going into the intake manifold. At only 1,500klms, I couldn't believe my eyes when I took the EGR pipe off and saw how much of that thick black soot was already in there. I think it's worth doing the EGR bank off just for that reason.

This was CAT's "u-beaut" EGR system...I say PITA POS!

I did the egr block just before my last oil change. I habe now done 5000km and the oil is still b pretty darn clean!! So im glad ive done it. Egr and other emitions crap is why nissan dropped the td42 out of the patrols.

well i have noticed an improvement, pulls a little better and fuel has even been a little better. I towed a 1200kg boat down to shoalhaven heads and only used 1/2 a tank there and back. And that wasnt being gentle on her up mount ousley and any other hill for that matter.

I put 68.78ltrs of diesel in and done 408klms so far and still have just over 1/4 of a tank to go. The rest will be with no weight so I expect an increase. Will wait and see.

Only problem now is the friggin power steering is leaking.

is yours a petrol engine?

I noticed an improvement when i did mine. I haven't finished a tank yet, but it has definitely improved throttle response.

Well still havent done a tank without towing as yet.
Got 500ks from 67ltrs towing a fully fueled fibreglass boat, loaded ute with fishing gear and kids toys, clothes etc, 2 kids and wife... So 13.4ltrs per 100km. Wasnt really driving consertative either but wasnt aggresive either.

Finally done a tank without towing and pleased to say 640km on the trip meter and light still not on yet. I Expect maybe 5-10klm more till it does.

What I have done is slightly change my driving style. I am not aggressive to get up to speed.

I use cruise control daily, that will help you gain a few extra K's.

Thought I would post up the exact klm after fueling up tonight.

68.7ltrs and 657klm. = 10.46 L/100km

Now I remembered I filled with the vortex diesel and drove what some might call normal... IE not in a hurry to get up to speed, although keeping up with traffic. She is a stock standard 2008 auto dual cab ST-X with no weight in the back.

Just filled up with Shell so I will see if its the fuel
