EGR Blanking

Hi everyone,
Just trying to find out some info on blanking off the egr on my d22. Do you need to install a oil catch can? Or is it a simple as putting in the blanking plate and that's it. Any info would be great. Cheers Sharky
 
all you need is the egr blanking plate [ ebay ] and thats it. i fitted mine on the egr unit drivers side, you can do the other side but i think the drivers side is easier to get to.
 
You don't have to fit a catch can, but if you do, it will keep the intake system a lot cleaner...
 
Ok are they hard to install? Do they do anything else? I don't know anything about them
 
The idea is to reduce or prevent engine oil from entering the intake manifold. Combined with the soot from the EGR system, it can create a gluggy mess that clogs the intake. Engine oil will also coat the inner surface of your intercooler reducing its performance.

It comes from the crankcase. As combustion occurs, a little of the gas produced slips past the piston rings (that's why the gaps in the rings need to be offset) into the crankcase. This pressurises the crankcase - and the "PCV" - Positive Crankcase Ventilation" - allows the excess gas to flow out.

Unfortunately, because the combustion gas is hot, it tends to vaporise the engine oil, which is passed out of the PCV along with the combustion gas.

So that's where it comes from and why it's beneficial to 'catch' it.

I wouldn't fit a Calibre unless you were willing (and able) to manufacture the guts in the correct fashion. Intake tube extending to near the bottom on one side of a blank plate with holes in it, stainless steel wool pushed down both sides. The Calibre version also has a $hitty sight-glass on the side - it breaks VERY easily.
