I haven't, but I'm reading over at ExplorOz that there are a couple of people who have had reasonable runs with them but they are complex and can be disastrous when they fail.
If you're really, really going to rely on it the best thing I can suggest is to stick to the tried and tested KISS principle - keep it simple.
Redarc is simple and protective - while I'm not a big fan of Redarc (I absolutely LOATHE their "proportional" brake controller) their isolator will protect the cranker battery from discharge.
Don't forget to use nice heavy gauge cable and put a decent fuse on each end just to protect everything.
