disable trip meter

Hi guys,
I want to disable the trip meter on my 04 d22 navara.

I know I can splice a switch into the speed sensor and yhat will turn my speedo on and off and stop the trip meter clocking kms up however I want to keep my speedo working and just stop my trip meter anyone know how? I dont want to do this to rip a future buyer off.trust me on this.

Dont want to pay for diesel kms. I think its just a governmentvrip off sceme and im going to be traveling on the open road a lot. So it would become cheaper to own a petrol vehicle but I need a ute to take dirtbike out.

I think you're talking about the odometer not the trip meter

Unplugging the sensor is the only way to do it, then you'd have to rely on a GPS for vehicle speed. You'd have no idea when the next service is due, and could end up in a situation rather similar to leaving an important body part outside while trying to zip your fly back up (yep, I mean it'll hurt and exactly where you don't want it to).

Yea I had a feeling id have to go down that track. Figured I would ask the question. Im going to install an hour meter to get around the service interval issue. Yea a lot of work but but it couldnsave me hundreds even thousands a year with the amount of traveling I will be doing in it.

And not to mention that it is highly illegal to tamper with an odometer I believe the fines can run into the hundred of thousands and jail terms. Whoever but the car after you will be getting ripped off just saying Sorry

Just a side note I had to get a specialist to reset my odometer when the dash had to be replaced and he had to do a stat dec for accuracy.
