Diff nocking

Has any one done an over hall on the front differential?
Been thumping for a few weeks, the mechanic said it's the diff. I understand that it would be the bearing but don't know if there would be other issues with the diff.

I havent done a D40 diff, BUT the older diffs did have two pins in the centre lot of gears that caused issues, some slid out and slapped a hole in the actual diff housing some just came all the way out and destroyed the centre itself.
So i would say you will need to pull it out and inspect it or it could end up costing you more then a few bits, also if it is the bearing then you will need to pull the diff anyway.

I wouldnt wait any longer either, every time you drive it the diff is still turning so it could go BANG at any point.

Which older ones are you talking about? Mine is the Spanish built 2007 2.5 diesel auto. Do you know how to pull the CV shaft from diff housing?
