well I was driving home from the airport this morning and guess what....... tap tap tap tap tap...... loud tapping, pulled into work and now just started it up and she ran for about 30 seconds and then stalled.... wont start now. Just watched my 2009 titanium edition Navi get sent to nissan on the back of a flatbed, and I suspect it is the timing chain gone... mmmmmm I wonder how much this will cost me.

81,000klms only!!!

just been informed by Nissan that she is dead..... time to recondition the motor or replace. either way it is going to be very very expensive. They said something about the timing chain oiler?? pin holes and a now 10mm hole, blah blah sucking all the oil pressure out of the motor and intern doing serious damage to the bearings on the bottom end. basically it is stuffed...... I have no idea what he is talking about other then to hear the magic words you need a new engine......

Ring around a chase up a new motor. Plenty of wrecked current Nav's in wreckers yards with low kms. As they said, wont be cheap but its your best alternative. Will cost you around 4-5k for a complete motor. Then will come the labour costs to remove your current motor and install the new one. However, that is something I would personally be doing myself if it happened to me. Take your time, do some research and have a crack. It's not all that difficult just time consuming.

It's out of warranty obviously - but hit them up for it anyway. Timing chains are a known issue after all. They can only say no - to which you reply that they don't get the repair job!

As above, plenty of people have had so called "GOOD WILL" repairs done when cars are out of warranty and with more km's from snapped chains, and as Nakedape said it is a known issue, not only that a timing chain should not snap on a well serviced engine with that amount of km's.
I would start off with a well worded letter to Mr Nissan Australia and see how you go, then if they dont come to the party keep going at them with all guns blazing.

Its such a sad thing to read - that something that should have been engineered up to a standard - not down to a price - has failed and it going to cost you a **** load to repair.

As stated, if it is the timing chain, i read they where being warrantied until 130,000km.. but you needed to show excellent service history..

Take it to a specialist for the heart transplant.. Nissan will tear you a new one with their pricing..

thanks guys for the advice.... I am chasing a second hand motor for the Navi from the east coast as WA is a rip off. I had a look at it lastnight after I had it towed back to my house and the timing chains are still in place and not broken, that being said it was a failure of the oil squirter that lubicates the timing chains (Either broke or came out) and it has resulted in a loss of oil pressure in the motor as the oil went into the timing chain cover area which in turn cause the bearings to crap themselves due to no oil...... so not happy with the situation but life is out to test us all and I see it as a learning experience and a chance to test my resolve.

I would still try and call Nissan along with a letter and see what they say, after all you have nothing to loose.

I know your feeling, shayno.. I've had my nave for 6 months, and 5 months it's been off road trying to fix faults.. annoying.

If it's any help, I know of 2 good workshop in Perth that will be able to help.. PM or txt me on 0417 777 489 me if you want the details. One of them is an engine builder and do excellent work..

Again, sorry to hear. Like yourself, I have lost confidence in the car to the point where when it does get sorted, I am just going to sell it.

It's a low km machine given its age - so you may have some leverage over Nissan. I wouldn't give up on warranty just yet.

Cheers Outlaw might just get it done local they are giving me a good rate and get rid of it.... I had a patrol for 4 years never skipped a beat.... jumped ship and had a petty 4.7 100 series sahara (Was a brilliant car) sold it for the POS!!! Oh well live and learn.

it mustn't have a good service history, if it did nissan would fix it under the good will policy we have seen them do in allot of other cases, then you wouldnt have to worry about finding an engine or a mechanic or spending any money.
I know if it happened to me i would be going at nissan for sure especially with the amount of km on it that yours has.

the sad part about the service history is the lack of stamps and receipts, no is did not have a service every 5000 klms as directed in the nissan warranty but it did get done every 10,000 or before.

10 is all that is required as far as im aware, 5000k is only under "extreme" conditions.
so if you have a history for 10k services you will be ok, BUT if you have no documentation you could be pushing poo up hill.

Mate firstly i like all that have spoken previous believe you are hard done by the few failures like this happen rarely but any manufacturer of the amount of cars made it does happen.

Unrelated to your issue i did small motor and sales as a young bloke i would see 200 of the same motor sold then 5 throw a rod or valve just the luck of the draw mostly it had nothing to do with service history of the owner some had done less than 5 hrs work.

In your case the fact is you are unlucky stamp your book sir and put the pressure on the dealer a fellow traveler with me has the same model as you done the canning ect Perth to Darwin no probs 120k on his now i change oil and filter every 5-6k only way to go in a little oiler.
John

look to be honest John I have been hit with the unlucky stamp..... yep no fighting that. At the end of the day doesn't mean I am giving every other Navi the bad car tag..... I just am saying that Mine was a dud.

And you are a gent for acknowledging that life goes on mate at the end of the day it's only a car as long as you and your family are well nothing else matters.

Never a truer word spoken there John.... Life moves on just keep on tracking no point whining over something out of my control.
