Hello everyone.

Reposting in this (correct) forum.

I have had my 2009 D40 from new. It currently has about 73,000 miles (120,000 km's) under it's wheels. It is totally standard and has never been messed with.

About 2 years ago it suffered power loss and began blowing black smoke. Research showed the Boost Control Solenoid was probably non-functional. I duly bought a Nissan branded replacement from ebay. This appeared to be DOA. I then purchased an OEM replacement from a reputable 4x4 parts supplier. This partly resolved the problem. Currently, I get turbo boost for a second before it drops away to almost nothing which makes it necessary to drop to 5th or 4th when driving up hill. There is no black smoke at this point. Apart from replacing the BCV, I have replaced all of the vacuum hoses.

If I bypass the BCV I get full boost and the car performs normally. As such, I've been running the car like this for some time. However, I would like to fix this issue once and for all. My investigation has yielded the following with the BCV reinstated.

Torque App is showing the boost pressure rise to 15-20 psi for a second before dropping down to 3 or 4. I can get boost to return by releasing the throttle and reapplying it. Again, the boost come in for only a second.

I attached a vacuum guage to the turbo actuator and it will lift to it's maximum height at 16 in/hg. Whilst doing this, looking through the intake side of the turbo, should I be able to see the vanes moving? I cannot so I wonder if they're stuck.
The actuator has never been adjusted so it should be set right.

Can someone please tell me if I ought to be able to see the turbo vanes moving when I lift the actuator rod?

Regards

RobC
