Hi All, my name's Greg & I'm a newbie. Gotta thing going for 4 x 4 D21 D/cabs. Settled on the Td 27 in its various forms with man. trans. Great vehicles. They have their quirks like all others I guess and I've still got a lot to learn about them.
Right now I've got 2 queries I'd like some help with please.
1) in as much detail as possible, has anyone got any good tips about dealing with the chassis end of the front suspension lower radius arm where it connects to the chassis? On one of my vehicles the "cups" on either side of the chassis bracket have worn away severely and need replacing. Any ideas?; and,
2)Had to replace the instrument cluster. Bought the whole shebang from a wrecker and changed it. As soon as the igniton is turned on, before the engine is started the tacho needle slams over to max and stays there till the engine is revving hard at which time it starts to erratically move back to a lower reading. Help!!!

Welcome to the forums Greg.

Have a look through the D21 section there is several good write ups of what people have been doing to D21. It may not answer your questions but atleast it will keep you entertained until someone like Dion comes online.

Is the dash cluster from a Navara that is different in any way? Or is it from an identical Navara?

A photo might help with the front control arm issue, I can't quite follow which component you're referring to.

The tacho in different motors works in different ways. Z24 petrol runs off the distributor, KA24 (efi) petrol runs off the ECU. Diesels they run off the injector pumps (I believe) and different diesel engines may use different voltage levels. Later TD27ETI probably run off the ecu as well.

Does the tacho eventually settle down to reasonable operation or does it continue to misbehave?

Hi Dion and others. Thanks for the quick reply. Don't know what vehicle the cluster came from but all the plugs/sockets were the same although placed physically slightly differently. The Nissan name for the suspension part is "Rod, Tension" and it is Nissan part No. is 54470-31G00. It connects back to a special bracket on the chassis ("Bracket - Tension Rod, 50260-31G01) having two large rubber bushes either side of the bracket captivated by two "cups" either side of the bracket. I hope that's clear. The rods add fore and aft stiffness to the "arm assembly - lower". FYI its a D21 D/Cab 4 x 4

Tachometer:

To add to what Pinelli has offered, only the TD27T engine speed sensor is part of the injection pump; on the NA TD27, the engine speed sensor is a separate component in the timing case cover on the passenger side of the motor.

As for the actual issue, perhaps you need to find out what the cluster was from. It sounds like you have access to the Nissan FAST parts catalogue, maybe try to cross reference the cluster part number you have with the various vehicle variants and vintages that it may have come from (Terrano 86-88 (TD27), Terrano 88-92 (TD27T), Navara 86-88 (SD25), Navara 88-92 (TD27)) and obtain the matching vehicle speed sensor if possible, or revisit the wreckers to attempt the same.

LCA:

Reading your description and looking at the front end of mine, I think I can see what you're referring to. As it looks to be a replaceable part, PM Nizzbits on this forum and get a price on some genuine Nissan replacements.
