Hi all,
I have a 2009 D40 2.5 TD 6 speed manual.
It appears that every time we drive on roads with severe corrugations (Wolfe Creek Crater Rd and Cape York Rd) the truck looses power and turns to limp mode. Turbo Vacuum hoses are fine and resetting the ECU worked this time. Anyone else have a problem like this?

Welcome to the forum.

Does the Check Engine Light come on when this happens?

If not, it's possibly an issue with the suction control valve - is it happening under heavy throttle application or just cruising?

You were right to check the vacuum lines. If they're even a little loose-feeling they can cause problems. To be sure, next time it happens pop the bonnet and look at the actuator arm as someone taps the throttle lightly (revs from 750-1500 should cause large variations in the vanes).

Otherwise I can only think it might be electrical. D40s have had the occasional problem with the MAFS (air intake just outside the filter box). It can be cleaned using electrical contact spray ($10 at Jaycar) or MAFS cleaner ($17 at SCA, same stuff). Be gentle, it's $400 and you should NEVER stick anything inside it - there is a delicate wire inside that you really don't want to break.

Hi Old Tony
No engine check lights come on the dash at all. We were doing less than 60 km/h both time it has happened. Will clean the MAFS and see how it goes. Thanks for your help.

You're welcome. Gotta try the inexpensive things first. SCV comes in at a few hundred $ but Nissan are aware that they are sometimes faulty and have been replacing them under warranty. I notice that yours is the same age as mine - if you opted for the extended warranty it's still covered, but if not, you might approach the dealer for a goodwill gesture - which, if you've been servicing the vehicle at a Nissan dealer, would stand more chance of success.
