Hi all, I am considering buying a 2010 D40 Navara sold new in 2011, it has 27,000 on the clock. I am concerned about the bad reports that I have read on the net about inherent clutch problems, is this a genuine concern?

Neil,

Yep they have a clutch issue, as does almost all of the modern 4wd's. Rangers and BT50's are worse. Don't let it put you off your purchase, just prepare in case.

I put it down to the fact we're running smaller engines with fairly high power outputs, but in order to achieve that, they need to run at higher RPM's thus meaning you need to work the clutch a bit to get them off the line.

An aftermarket replacement clutch kit and flywheel makes a huge difference, albeit with a little harshness added by the removal of the dual mass flywheel.

Cheers.

gday and welcome, i have the same model that you are looking at.
I have done 80'000km and no issues.
The ute has towed a car trailer with a dc hilux on it for around 400km from bathurst to the southern highlands with no probs, i also tow a box trailer filled with sand and other stuff at least 3 times a month, i take it out bush every other weekend and no probs.
You will have to get use to the lack of power under 1800rpm but once you do realise that and drive accordingly you should be ok.

Now having said that IF you do intend to tow big boats or huge caravan all the time and on long trips, i would say GET THE AUTO.
