I was out having an play today, trying to take it easy and managed to brake my front diff.

Not sure what is broken, I was snatching a mate out of a bog hole, I was reversing so there was a bit of down force on the front and then the crunch noise came. Now when I am in 4wd the front ticks, clicks and crunches.

I always thought the diffs go when you get a wheel come down while spinning?

Anyways, if I get an elocker installed would it replace the parts that are broken? OR do I need to fix the diff then add a locker?

All depends what's broken. If its the diff itself then yes the Elocker is a replacement centre. If its crown wheel then no it won't as you will need to buy a new crown wheel. It may even be cvs not diff making the noise. Sus it out before putting money anywhere you don't need to. Plus doing a snatch recovery in reverse is not the best way of doing it lol.

Unsure on diagnosis. Never had the issue yet. 2wd will drive fine as nothing in the front is moving at all. Maybejack the front up aand lock the hubs and spin manually by hand. Try locking one hub then spin then lockother side aand spin. This may tell you its a cv.

Just drove it again, seems like it's only making a if clunk when the wheel is turned

It's a D40, so no lockable hubs - the front diff turns all the time. The noise will be coming from being driven - which makes me think CV, but I'd also check the unis on the front shaft.

Snatching in reverse ... how the hell are you supposed to rip the guy's bullbar off if you're only getting up to 10km/h? You need to be doing at least 50 when the strap goes tight! :rofl2:

Haha, we did everything right, except the reverse bit. Was not even a big snatch.

Just need to work out a way to diagnose it for sure, pretty sure warranty won't cover a cv joint having a lift and bigger tyres

Probably be pushing **** uphill with a toothpick getting warranty to cover it even had you not had a lift and bigger tyres.

Looking at diagnosis this weekend, if I pull the diff out can I still drive?

Would remove cv and front drive shaft

Yeah, it's ok in a straight line, but 4wd turning it CLUNKS f'ing loud, will removing cv show damage?

I doubt it with the current hub assembly. I do wonder about dropping the front axle from a Titan in - someone here was actually looking at that, can't remember who, but you'd never break that.
