not sure if there is topic with this heading, but here goes, was pushing the zd30 hard, not a full fogging, turbo blew, meaning the intake side of when, shaft snap, the engine die as well, when i went to start back,it wouldn't,check fuses, did a code read, nothing, compression test,#1 was 200 psi, manual says about 425 psi, decided to pull the head, saw that the top of the pistons had some turbo on top of them, took the pistons out as well, saw that took crown of the piston also had some turbo around it,no damage to block wall, guessing that the turbo parts around piston's crown would cause the low compression.

The first mod anyone should do to the ZD30 is to put an intercooler on it -- they won't save the turbo, but they may save your head/pistons/wallet.

I have heard of them go as low as 70000 but like Dave (moderator) still had the factory turbo at 270000 from what I know, so you can be lucky and get a good run to.

I put the cross country top mount I/c kit on mine, its not cheap( well similar to exhaust or suspension upgrade), but its piece of mind. The biggest downside to I/c the nav is it gets cramped under the bonnet, but I can live with it

Me too. Makes filter changes harder, but oh well :)

I traded my D22 with 280,000km's on the clock. Turbo was fine and the original.

I hit 6 kangaroo's, several walibies, countless rabbits and a dog in that ute.

Nathan's 05 D22 got written off with 350,000km's and still had the original turbo on it from memory.

Heard several times, that 2004 onwards had billet compressor wheels where as the earlier ZD30's had just alloy.

I know GU series 2 Patrols had a different turbo to the series 3 onwards. Series 2 were water cooled and later version's were only oil cooled turbo's.

Oh and series 1 GU's had the RD28ETi and the pile of crap TD42.

Id say Nissan realised the turbo's were a problem on both specs of the ZD30, well what Australia got.

Depends how much you want to spend. AXT have a kit.

Too bad the owners are wankers though.

Maybe its a side company of SAX.
