went to block of egr today after reading about it on this and other sites.removed pipe at drivers side only to find it allready had a plate installed,i bought the d40 stx auto deisel new and only 3 people have had access to this car.my mechanic who does the service and he didnt do it ,i had a chip put in some 18 months ago i dont think he did it but will confirm on monday this only leaves nissan that has had it several times with egr &dpf faults.the plate is pressed metal not something that has been hand made.anyone herd of nissan dealers fitting plates without telling their customers.cheers warren

Mate that is a new one on me. Nissan are not likely to do it as it is a requirement for emission control standards that Nissan have to comply with.

Then again, if you've had trouble with the EGR, blocking the pipe ends the problem. Maybe a service guy just slipped it in to resolve the problem once and for all?

Being pressed metal, it may be factory. Just remember, the autos have a DPF. Not saying it is, but possible.

As a comparison, in the 80's a run of 5.0l VK Brock Commodores had no egr and it applied to Manuals only. Unsure of the reason, but this may be similar.

Greg

if the bloke that did the chip didnt fit it i wont ask the dealer incase of the trouble it may cause.the dealer i bought the car of was usles so i took it to another dealer ,they could not find any fault but replaced some fuel censer in some hope it might of been that.it wasnt but at least he did somthing .last week it went into limp mode and i could not reset it the dealer fixed the dpf and i hope it has fixed it .i sold my patrol for the d40 and have spent a fair bit of money putting lift;long rang tank; winch tray .ect been interstate 2 times in it one simpson crossing one time to qld and the engine light has come on both times so i havent lost confidence in the car yet but if this keeps going on the patrol will back. cheers warren

you sure its a plate and not just a gasket ?
if its a blocking plate, probably nissan fitted it to diagnose the faults. its an easy way to work out egr related problems.
