Anyone using additives?

Seen it on a few forums how people do and don't use fuel/oil additives on their engines.

i'm wanting to know from YOU guys:

who has used fuel/oil additives?
what brand/product did you use?
how did you find the product worked for you?
and would you recommend it?

i recently purchased a bottle of wynns triple action diesel fuel treatment which is supposed to stop black smoke, clean the injectors, extra life, etc.

i havent used it yet as i want you hear from you lot what you reckon about the additives because theres a big yes/no debate on many forums such as how they work great, but also how they are bad for your engine.

i have used chemtech and moreys fuel treatments.
they work well.

nissan has their own fuel treatment, what does that tell ya.

i think there are some crappy treatments around. also over use of treatments could cause problems. moreys recommends only 1 in 4 tank fulls, others are similar.

most of the good diesel ones include a biocide to kill diesel bug. also they help to control water. some nasty ones will make the water split up and it wil go through the water filter which is not good. good ones will make the water jion together which the water filter can stop.

sersiouly i can't tell the difference, but i only use it like once every 3 months

I run a injector cleaner through mine every 3 tank's.

putting the wynns 3 in 1 treatment in tonight with a full tank so shall see how it goes.

if all goes well it should give the engine a bit more and milage should be a bit better.

will soon see!

i have been using moreys sense new has 40000 km on it now on the moreys website it states to use it full time for max benefit or Evey 4th tank for preventative maintenance .i run it every tank full the bottle is marked on the side each one treats 50 liter .cheers pappy

fuel treatment

Luv my D40. I run diesel mowing equip also, and found algae in the filter and tank, of a LOW hours machine I "bought second hand." Previous owner using drums to fill up. Faaaar#n big job to get it out. Taking NO chances with my pride n joy. I use low or ultra low sulphur 98 if i can + chemtech treatment. $33 for 1lt at repco. recommended use 1ml/lt. that's .033 cents/lt or 5lt is $96 thats 0.0192 cents/lt or $1.53/80lt tank. SHIT it's nearly free! Maybe over kill, but cheaper than a pump, injectors, etc. only my opinion.

I was just about to use some castrol 2 stroke oil, 300mls to a tank, Old Tony uses it and he reckons its gold, quiets down engine on cold start and gets better economy. My old man used to run Wynn's in Adelaide and their is no way i would chuck that crap in my beast. Check out this link:

Ha ha ha @ Joe.

If you have access, use a premium diesels such as BP Ultimate Diesel. No need for any additives as they are a very refined fuel with a much higher cetane rating than others.

I could feel the difference in my Audi for sure and that is all it ever drank. I will go the same way in the Nav.

Spoke to a very confident diesel, turbo, injector etc specialist. Well, He said. "Use a treatment that emulsifies the water, (breaks it up into fine particles so as to LET it through the filter into the injectors." I couldn't bring myself to ask, "doesn't the water damage the injectors?" Pretty sure it does.

with petrol injectors that is not to bad (with exception of the new direct injected petrols).
a cheap dirty one is alcohol.

with diesel its bad, it will stuff the pump and injectors.
you want an additive that modifies surface tension so the water joins together. that bubble of water is then fairly easy to catch in the filter.

I use it mainly to stop the fugue growin. Been there it ain;t pretty.

Other than mixing in some weed killer anyone know of an additive that's good for stopping moss/mould growing in a diesel tank and or water trap? I seem to remember something similar talked about in a forum recently but not sure if it was this one.

Note this isn't a Nav problem it's a Kubota problem and it's mainly due to the tractor being parked outside and the direction it gets parked luckily for us the moss/mould has only appeared in the water trap so far but it would be nice to have some confidence that maybe it wont ever appear in the tank given that the tractor wont be getting parked inside for a while to come yet and the worst time for this problem is coming up over the next few months.

Had fungie in a diesel JohnDeere, low hrs 2nd hand. Found it in the filter to start. took tank out, as I'm a nervous nelly. Holy shyyyyt, heaps. Treat with Chemtech now. Previous owner using jerry can's. Chemtech CLAIMS, to stop it.

i use F10 made by industrial chemical tech in perth wa , awesome product i tell you . if you put water fuel to gether on ground and pour some of this on top in frount of your eyes it seperates them just like that , this on can also be used in petrol 2 stroke , i used to use chemtech deisel power but found it was getting weaker and not performing guys are intrested call in to your nearest covs parts store peth wa and wa country branches . WORTH THE LOOK trust me

Cool thanks guys. Our problem has been restricted to the glass inspection bowl of the water trap because it doesn't get driven every day and cops the morning sun then any moisture that's retained spends the arvo warming but not in direct sunlight so it grows. Thankfully it's not in the tank and with the tank on the opposite side it's not as likely so we aren't too worried about it growing in the tank but we'll whack some crap in and remind the others who also drive the tractor that it's not a problem to check the inspection bowl every now and again rather than ignore it and wait till it's growing.
