Any feedback...walking around a Nissan dealer and he had the 2011 and 2012 models on the lot..says he's driven both side by side and says the made in Japan model is tighter, drives better etc etc.
Also mentioned that Nissan have always been making the Jap built d22 BUT only for Japan and selected markets till now due to flood issues in Thailand.
both 2011 and 2012 models --same price

I have had my 2012 jap built d22 now for 2 weeks and love it. Compared mine to a mates 011 Thai built and the jap built is refi agley tighter and a little smoother

I have a thai built and have no issues. Bought new in may, it has about 30000 on it and has no squeaks, bumps, clangs or crashes.

At the end of the day so long as you are happy then that is what matters. Does the jap built ones provide trickery on the brain to give a false sense of superiority over a thai built?? who knows, not me, however if the thai were complete shit then they would not make them there, in the volume they do, for the market they do.

The only other thing i would consider is price. You say both the same price. Surely come time to talk turkey the dealer will do a better price to get rid of last years old stock, so you may be able to get the thai a bit cheaper.

didn't they cut a few things out of the MY12 jap built ones to make it more feasible price wise? I had an 09 thai and sold it then bought a 08 jap for about $6000 less (I had to get rid of the loan I had on the car it was killing me paying it off), the jap one is definitely better.

Had a close look under the bonnet yesterday and noticed that there is a lot of cast iron parts with severe rust, I'm talking the kind of rust you get from salt water or corrosive chemical exposure, could some of these parts have been under water during the tsunami? Think it's a problem?

I know exposed cast iron always rusts but this stuff is crusty.

The jap built units have always been the NP300 model, they had the first
yd25 engine in 2001 and had some conrod bearing issues untill it was revised in 2006.
