Hello,
Could those with the 126kw motor please let me know how you went with 265x75x16 tyres? Did you need to slip clutch more to take off, is taking of offroad too hard, did economy go silly or power loss really noticeable? I can find much from people with 140kw motors but not much on the 126kw.

Also, is off-roading an issue with lack of low down torque?

Thanks heaps.
David.

Hi David
I have an RX 2011 3.1Ton with Cooper STT Maxx 265x75R16.
I felt the lack of acceleration with the bigger tyres too. To overcome that you go a bit harder on the loud foot and that's why the fuel economy suffer as well.
In regard to the offroad driving I think I've done a fair bit of it but never felt I needed more power (despite "power is never enough") to go where ever I needed to go.
Fit all the accessories you think you need then go 4wd and see how it goes, you can always install a power chip if you need to but remember you did not buy a comp truck!
Cheers Max

Unrelated I got the NA 3.2l d22 dx, went from the standard Tyre size 205r16 to 235/85/16s and the power drop was huge. The car dident have much power to start with but the larger tyre made a huge difference to the on road driving.

Off road, 4l you don't notice it at all. Still had heaps of power.

I put on a turbo and got my on road drive-ability back. this thing is properly still only putting out 90Kw - so heaps less than you
- i would say it will be noticeable for you on road and towing, but off road SFA difference (unless your racing through mud lakes?)

Have the Thai built 126Kw under the hood here. Can't speak for 265X75's but did fit 265X70's so a 2% percent increase in diameter and no noticeable effects. I was tempted to go for 75's but erred on the side of caution.

If you haven't already, you may want to consider the EGR block mod. and perhaps a larger diameter exhaust and dump pipe, not so much to give more outright power but help that off idle low down grunt.

I have driven a higher output 140Kw D40 and although they do have more go but they still feel fairly dohey off idle.

Have not brought the EGR plate as I take delivery of the car on Friday and am not sure which plate to buy. I will be blocking though. I am a little concerned about the low down torque, hopefully the EGR block helps a little.

I am still leaning towards the taller profile tyre for that little bit more clearance.

Thanks Max, I have a manual - perhaps should have found an auto. I am a little excited to pick her up. It's at ARB getting some trinkets fitted as I type.

I looked at your garage, nice looking Nav!

Thanks David,
if you decide to go down the track of engine mods you'll find that the manual is much better option ie bigger exhaust to start with + high flow turbo compressor wheel = lots of down low torque.
Cheers
Max
